Test Drove a Ridgeline
« on: October 15, 2005, 02:04:53 pm »
Was having some warranty work done on my car today at Honda and the guy that sold me my car gave me the keys to his Ridgeline and told me to take it for a test drive.  Big Mistake.... because now I want one more than ever.  It's a huge vehicle but doesn't feel like it.  Except for riding high it feels like a car.  I'm impressed.  The Navigation package is pretty neat to.

I want to try one of those, maybe in Nov I'll try a new civic and a ridgeline.  I don't think I need a truck as a daily driver but it would be usefull for towing race cars ;)

Then you're all set.  We all know that the Ridgeline isn't a truck.   :D

I've seen pictures of that NsX...you can hardly call that a race car.   ::)

I've never driven a Ridgeline but it sounds like it would drive a lot like a MDX - and better than any actual truck.

This salesman is a genius.  You come in not even looking for a car and he nearly sells you one.  :)

Yep….once you drive the Ridgeline you will dump the SUV you have. The Ridge has far more utility than any SUV I have driven or tested......We will see in March.

The Honda Ridgeline is like a Japanese version of the Ford Explorer Sport Trac ... it's not very BIG, some call it a "truck" and it looks more like a convertible jeep then a truck with a crew cab.  Also, the Ridgeline shares it's platform with the Pilot ... which is based on a minivan (Odyssey) platform.  It has a unibody which makes for a tight ride but it also make the Ridgeline a one trick pony.

In the truck game, you have to be versatile.  Some people want a 4' box ... others 6 or even 8.  Also, you have the dual, flareside and many commercial options.  It's obvious that Honda only wants a small share of the truck market for now ... they're are targeting folks who don't often need a truck ... like someone in the city who's going to the cottage once in a while and want to tow their boat or something.  It's a great urban "truck" for what it's meant to do!

When I took a look at the Ridgeline I noticed the "storage bin" in the box ... or the 2'X3' hole in the box right next to the spare tire.  They say you can put dirt or gravel in there ... try getting it out and you'll see the problem.

The Ridgeline has a bigger interior then my current Highlander. I would never consider hauling gravel in a Ridgeline…..well without placing a chunk of plywood in it. Just like I did with all my full sized GM, FORD, and DODGE trucks I owned.

No Kidding.  He almost reeled me in but recommended that I wait because I've only had my current lease for a year.  :)

One big factor that I don't like about the Ridgeline is the transmission. It's primarily a FWD with the ability to transfer 70% of the torque to the rear tires....at 1st or 2nd gear only??? There is no way to lock into AWD or 4x4 mode. That's a big NO NO for a pickup truck IMO. The Ridgeline won't be on my short list until this feature changes for the better.
