Lots of people do end up paying inflated dealer admin fees, that's true, because some dealers pad their admin fees with overpriced dealer services like window etching and then try to tell the buyer that the fee is non-negotiable. Sometimes they're up front about it -- a Ford dealer here mentions "window etching" in their newspaper ads as something they're going to try and nail you with a "mandatory" fee for -- and sometimes they're not and you may not find out until you look at the sales contract.

yeah, and $349 is a bit DEEP in a $14K car... if it's a top of the line Sienna, it doesn't make a big difference, but it's a Yaris...

NO!! Admin fees are specifically ruled out under BC access pricing. There was only the vaguest attempt to bilk me convince me to go for "extras". I simply said "I'm not interested in any of the extras" and that was that. They couldn't even do the old glass-etching routine as the car hasn't arrived yet!  ::) ;D

Ross, what made you settle in Port?  As I mentioned in a previous post, I spent many childhood summers there.  Almost drown trying to swim across Sproat Lake  :(
Later on, in the early 70s, I decided to drive from Port to Long Beach, after visiting with my aunt and uncle.  Back then it was a gravel road and I lost my Mini's Strebro muffler half way there.  I threw the muffler in the back seat and continued on.  In the early 70s you could still camp and drive on the beach.
Those REALLY were the days  :)

Ross, what made you settle in Port?

That is several long stories, but you get the condensed version since you asked so nicely. An attempted marital reconciliation didn't work out, so I needed to buy a new home. The prices had gone up dramatically in the Comox Valley where I had settled into retirement, so I moved to the Alberni Valley where prices were still very low. It was also my original 2nd choice. I now love it here and expect to spend the rest of my life is this sleepy little city.

I too remember the old road to Long Beach - my first trip was in 1969 if memory serves. I wound up driving it in the dark that first time. Scary to say the least! I've paddled outrigger and dragon boat on Sproat lake, but haven't swum in it - yet.  ;D Even with all the rain in fall and winter, it is still a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors. Gore-tex helps.  ;)

I just got back from seeing my Yaris!!!    I really like it! There are a few nits to pick, and I will share them later, but overall, it's better than I expected. The amount of room is great. The front has almost as much legroom as the '94 Golf, and I can still sit in the back (not comfortably though) with the seat all the way back. It has noticicably more combined front/rear room than the Escort. The seats are very comfy and grip extremely well. The remote is built into the key - a feature I didn't expect, but hoped for. I pick it up in less than 3 hours (3 pm Pacific). I have the manual and will be reading while I wait. Some of the accessories and tinting will have to wait a couple of days (they just received the parts numbers this morning and have top order them), but I get to say goodbye to the F*** and hello to Jack!  8) 8) ;D

Ross, did you manage to get the cruise control yet? I wrote to Toyota.ca and they said they're still working on it, and the kit will come out later...

Does the keyless entry includes alarm system? Or that has to be purchased seperately?

I'm looking into putting in the central armrest too, but saw in the accessory configurator that it seems to take up the rear cupholder space, is that the case?? Can anyone confirm?

Jack?? Well, that's a bit convoluted. It started with the pirate theme. I live on Vancouver (Treasure) Island so I thought of Long John Silver (it is silver after all), but it's a very small car, so that makes it ... Jack, for short. I've also been told often enough that I know jack-all, so his official name is The Silver Jackal (Jackall??).

No, I did not get the alarm system, but the basic keyless seems to include an immobilizer. The alarm is around $200 extra.

You do lose the one cup-holder if you get the armrest. You do get the two cup-holders in the dash - very nice too, and 2 bottle holders, in in each map-pocket. I think the latter inclusion was an attempt to win over Saffy!  :-[ ;D

Cruise will come in a while, but it is not available yet. It was always a healer install anyway, so it will be fine when it arrives.

Oh, and for you stereo fans, an auxiliary adapter is standard with the 6-disc MP3/WMA player that comes in the RS!  ;D 8) ;D

One hour and counting!  8)

I went to a dealer to check on the car, they have a RS there. And I don't see any aux. input in the stereo...  ??? There's basically NO HOLE on the front of the stereo system... I wonder where that aux. input will be.

Front seats are roomy, and there are lots of headroom for me. And to my surprise, the back seats are extremely roomy too, I can still have spaces left in front of me when I positioned myself comfortably back there, thanks to the adjustable back seats. However, as expected, head room will be a bit tight but is ok, and if you adjust the seat back, you could probably get more headroom. Test drove it and it's pretty decent little car. Power-wise is acceptable for a 1.5L engine. However I found the front windshield a bit narrow for the view. And within the 15 mins of driving, I had looked down for the speed several times already, I guess I have to get use to the center display cluster, but it will be hard if switching from vehicle to vehicle...

Steering is a bit too easy, but I guess can't compare it to my del Sol... and the RS sport seats are quite supportive! I guess it worth the extra $$ to upgrade to RS if you are driving long distances to work everyday. From what I saw in the vehicle, RS auto got leather wrapped gear knob also, rather than just for manual.

OK, that's it for my own opinion of the car. Hope it will help other people who're looking into this car.  ;D

"Oh, and for you stereo fans, an auxiliary adapter is standard with the 6-disc MP3/WMA player that comes in the RS!"

Sorry about that. I was going on the manual I brought home. There are two different MP3 players, Type 1 & 2. We get type 1 - no Aux.  >:( I guess the US gets type 2 with the Aux under the front of the parking brake. Sorry for the false alarm.

I haven't done much driving yet, as the first thing I did was stop and replace the OEM tires. They are now using RE92s, and they just won't do for the Wet Coast. I had Toyos put on and hopefully they will do the job. The extras will be done on Friday.

Daffi fits nicely in the hatch with the seats in the original position. I love the higher seating position - my knees and back are particularly pleased, but it is also possible to see with pickups and SUVs in the traffic mix. The steering IS very light, but I find the car extremely stable so far. Tomorrow I will go for a real drive.  ;D Here are a couple of pictures of Jack:
