06 Toyota Yaris buying thread
« on: October 11, 2005, 10:04:09 am »
Just want to start up a thread so everyone can share their experience on buying the new Yaris? Like what options they got on the car and how much discounted (if any). hahaha!

For myself, I got a question. Does it make sense that the dealership is charging GST and PST on Freight & PDI, admin fees, air con tax? Is that always the way? Thank you.

Yup, Freight and PDI are services, so are admin fees.  Tax on the air con tax peeves me off, I'm not 100% sure on that one, they shouldn't but the gov loves collecting tax on tax.

It is not up to Toyota dealers to decide what to charge GST/PST on; that is all either federally or provincially mandated. Don't beat up any dealer on that issue.

BTW - there seems to be quite a few Yaris threads going now, cannot they be wrapped in one or maybe two only. Relies are going to be spread all over this way. Just a thought.

I know there is another thread about the Yaris going on in the New Model section. But that one for me is more toward the information on the car, and I am starting this one specifically for actual buyers of the car... dunno if this is a good idea or not?

In BC, there is a $1.40 difference between the GST (7%) and PST (7%), so I guess some of the taxes are not taxed here.  ;D

It's true, though, that the dealer has no control over that.

There are several threads going on about the Yaris (unlike, for example the Civic  ;)), but I think this could be a VERY useful one. Hopefully people will get the message and use this thread for buying related comments!! Thanks for starting it GabL.

Edit: I'll be going to the dealer in a few hours (they haven't opened yet  ;D) and will report later today.

What about the $100 fuel tax rebate? It cancelled out the air con tax right? So I can take away the amount from my calculation?

Fuel tax rebate? Is that an Ontario thing, or have I missed yet another bit of useful information?  ??? :)

For my purhase, I paid $1010 freight & PDI, $100 air tax, $349 admin fee on top of the MSRP, but getting $100 fuel rebate. So will be paying MSRP + $1010 + $349 + taxes on the car. Good that I am eligible for grad rebate, which is $500 off! hehe!

It shows on the Toyota.ca price quote for Ontario. I dunno for B.C., Corolla and Echo both got this rebate as the car is low on gas.  :D

From my dealer, it seems that cruise control will not be available for now...

all I know its a very over price super-mini - with all the options it can work out according to the article 20 grand for a super-mini which is way to much - even though its the best on the market - I would rather have a corolla CE with a B package at that price. The Yaris in its base form it makes more sense - but what you start adding options then its really loses it vaule to me anyways.

A lot of cars seem to have that problem.

All I want is cruise and A/C  to get that in a $16k car I have top option it out to $21k ish area.

For a small amount more I can get much more car, like an impreza for $23k

Well, Corolla CE does not have ABS/EBD, not even as an option... and any other cars are like that as soon as you start putting options to it. It's really what you needed in the car and what you're willing to pay. I would take a Mini (it's the same class as Yaris for me) if my gf is willing to take it (she doesn't like the interior trim).  ;D

Just got back from doing the paperwork. Cruise will be along later, it appears, but that's not a problem. It's a really easy retrofit. There were no surprises. Delivery was $1010. The rep started to say "You'll need to see ..." and I simply said "No I won't. I don't want any of the extras and I'm paying cash." "OK."

If the car arrives early enough on Saturday, I MAY get it then, but it looks like next Monday is the delivery date - at long last. If everything is as described, it will be the perfect car for my tastes, situation, and finances.  ;D

Not as good as what they were giving with the Echo hatch, but better than the bank would give.  ::)  :) I'm actually a tiny bit surprised it is that low right now.

I'm surprised to see seems like all other provinces doesn't have that "etching"/admin fee of $349! Only Ontario has it.

So cars in other provinces don't get etched?

I live in Ontario and my Toyota dealer doesn't do etching. Usually that's a dealer add-on that they may try to convince you is mandatory. $349? Ouch!
