Honda stabilizer links
« on: October 05, 2005, 02:23:23 pm »
Worst thing about Honda products is the stabilizer links failing.

- Changed rear links in 1997 Acura 1.6 three times in 80,000kms.
- Changed fron links once at about 65,000 kms
- My friend had to change front and back on his 2000 Accord with 85,000kms.
- I changed front on my 2000 Accord at about 48,000 kms.
- I read in another posting about a CRV owner having to do same.

If you Honda creaks and pops when rolling over small bumps check your links.

I cannot believe Honda does not find a better design and do somrthing to stop this problem.

How about a re-design of part and a recall to fix them.

Living my BMW dream.

Is Honda recognizing this problem or are they stiffing the owning on the repair. If its happening a lot then they should be a recall on them as that is very premature wear of this part. A Recall can happen to any Brand but the difference is how the original builder handles the claim later on. For some people this would braeak the Camels back on problams and others will take it in stride  :).

Changed them on my Focus and other cars I owned.  All brands need these at one point or another and GM is no exception.

Its funny how this thread was started about the Honda Product but know we have to bring GM into this. I really wonder why that is. I have never heard of any GM having this problem 3 times in that low of milage ever.  I have never heard of any other make as well for that matter have this problem except this brand. Maybe its just this Brand that has this constant problem.  :)

 :nono: Barrie1!  LOL

Actually I've never heard of Honda having this problem.  I'm wondering if the vehicle is being pushed a little too hard on a regular basis than for what it was designed for.

I've pushed mine very hard over 230,000 kms, and haven't noticed any problems.

Now that he mentions it, though, there has been a squeaking noise from somewhere back there for maybe the past 50,000 kms or so. Certainly not a big deal though - only happens at low speeds over bumpy roads. It really sounds to me more like loose trim pieces squeaking in the trunk, but who knows? Maybe it's the dreaded defective Honda stabilizer links!

Either way, the car drives fine, so I don't much care about a couple of minor squeaks every now and then.

My car is not push or driven hard.

The squeaks and pops do not sound like they are comming from suspension. It actually sounds like rear seat back creaking or plastic panels rubbing together. Each time however the noise goes away after links are replaced. The noise is real decieving.

I must confess I just went to have rear links replaced for 3rd time and it ended up being some suspension bushing that needed greasing or lubricating. So the rear links have only failed twice. But this is still too much in my opinion.

From what I have been told the poor conditions of Montreal roads are to blame.

..On a connected ! note my Millenia rear squeak I've mentioned before was traced to a rear stabiliser bar......replaced it and quiet as a (non squeaky) mouse now.......PART was $120 bucks though....a days ferkin' beer money  frittered away...... :'(

Yeah JD it could be the links. But could be the seat. See below.

One time I had what sounded like a rear seat noise that was in fact a rear seat noise .

No Saffy nobody was shagging in the back. Too small a car for serious shagging.

The back of leather seat was rubbing on back shelf. I folded down rear seat and put self sticking foam insulating strip aong plastic ridge of back shelf on car. The foam strip is the kind used for insultaing doors and windows. No more noise.

It's also pretty common for the torsion springs that prop up the trunk lid to squeak as well. Have a look at the two long, metal rods that criss-cross in the trunk, just under the rear parcel shelf.

In my case, a few wraps of Teflon tape (aka plumbers tape) where the rods cross eliminated the squeaking. That was a few years ago, though, so maybe it's time to go back there for another look and a few more wraps of tape.
