Hey thanks for the notice! That sounds really interesting... I'm thinking of attending (as a spectator). Do you have any pointers for a newbie (good spots to be, other interesting opportunities)?

I've watched rallies (including North American ones) for many years on TV, but have never attended one!

Thanks for any suggestions!

BTW, are you driving in the rally? :)

Does anyone in Ontario televise the Canadian Rally series? I can't seem to ever find it on TSN or Sportsnet... :(

Last year was my first ever rally...spectator only.  There are really only 2 stretches of road where the stages take place (that can be viewed by spectators).  Each stretch of road is raced in one direction for one stage, then in the opposite direction for the next stage.  My friend and I watched the last 3 stages...2 in the afternoon, and 1 at night.  The two later afternoon stages were along the Iron Bridge course.  For one of these stages we stood near the bridge, which gave an exciting vantage point as the cars careened across the bridge and around the tight corner.  We were late arriving for the night stage (take a flashlight!), and stood on a ridge in the woods amongst dozens of other fans.

Hints:  
Arrive early if you want to get a good spot to view the stage
The race marshals frown upon spectators going outside of the designated areas (I know from experience.  My friend and I saw some people standing in a good viewing spot.  The people left, but we stayed...that is, until the marshal told us to move.)
Dress warm
Bring maps with you printed from the ROTP website to help you find the stages
Bancroft will be VERY busy on the day of the rally - my friend and I had supper in Wilberforce

Last year Sportsnet was showing the Canadian Rally Championship stages.  I'm not sure if it's the same this year.   :(

Is there a website for the Canadian Rally Championship? (Teams, Drivers, News, etc.) I can't seem to find one.

There doesn't appear to be all-encompassing TV deal for the national events this year.  It looks like the Pacific Forest Rally in Merritt, BC will show up on a CHUM station near you sometime this fall.

..Ya have ta be YOUNG & STUPID ta stand still fer 10 seconds of excitement every hour....then again RALLYING is much the same  ;)...ONLY 1 guy wins and the chips are all over the place.........come over ta my place I'll throw mud,leaves and cold water over ya every 1 minute then hose ya down and give ya a cold DOG and a watery coffee...ONLY $19:99 reserve NOW.......HAVE FUN....... ::)

What, got too much snow in your puss* to handle a real man's motorsport?  You wouldn't last 2 seconds in a Rally car at speed without puking on yourself, much less stand in one place for more than 10 seconds to watch and enjoy the greatest motorsport in the world.  Real cars racing on real roads as real as it gets.  Why don't you and your dog go hide in the corner while the real men are at the Rally.
