You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
Used Vehicle Review:
2002-04 Ford Focus SVT

2002 Ford Focus SVTTo satisfy enthusiasts who like spicy performance mixed with practicality, Ford sent its Focus to the SVT team in 2002, which turned out a "fun-to-drive" version, Chris Chase writes. Expect smooth, strong power and competitive pricing, but be prepared for high fuel consumption.    More...

Fusion SVT ... never meant to be! hello  IMO it's not a big loss. Thinker

Ford kills SVT - 2007 Shelby Cobra Mustang to be performance division's swan song

Inside Line has the skinny on something that will bring tears to the eyes of many a high-performance enthusiast... the end of SVT as we know it is close at hand. Stephen Cole Smith of Inside Line predicted such a fate for Ford's in-house skunkworks, and on on April 1, 2006 he'll be proven right.

According to Cole, as of this moment SVT's PR/marketing staff, engineering staff, dealer network, press fleet and events trailer (all exclusively dedicated to the division) have been dismantled. The 2007 Shelby Cobra-badged Mustang will be the last vehicle to be developed, start to finish, by the SVT program. If anything, Cole says, we might get a vehicle with an SVT-tuned suspension. Maybe.

RIP SVT

The Civic SiR was $25 500, as I recall...  the Ford offered more horsepower and two more doors.  But I'd rather have the Civic - fun + proven reliability + VTEC + cheaper?

I've seen a couple for sale in Vancouver...  $18 000 asking on one, lease takeover plus buyout totallying ~$14 000 on the other.

SVT has come up with some awesome performance vehicles and they will be missed. Unfortunately SVT is a victim of a struggling company who needs to focus on becoming profitable again. Perhaps in the future in happier times it will be resurrected again.

Ford has the Muscle Car market all to itself with the 300 HP MT Mustang GT for $35k.

A really awesome car to drive. 5-door Focus SVT is a damn wonderful package. Its a pity this machinery was so underrated, there were a couple of 02s sitting in dealer lots during the middle of 03 with 5k factory rebates. Focus SVT was a better choice than the underwhelming Civic SiR hatchback, torqueless Martrx/Corolla XRS, competent Sentra SE-R Spec-V and the softly sprung Mk4 GTI 1.8T. Maybe because its a Ford, it didn't get the recognition this great car deserved. Bang Head Cry

I read an article once on the SVT Focus whereby a tuner took the motor apart to
see if there were any mods that could improve the power output and when
they put the exhaust manifold on a flow bench they were astounded at the
flow rating which could handle upwards of 250hp...of course
Cosworth did all the engineering work on the motor whcih speaks
volumes. This SVT is a modern classic, excellent chassis and overall
performance.

I'm a member of focuscanada.net and have had the opportunity to see many Focus SVT up close & personal.

I was always astounded by how much potential was left in the motor & exhaust combo that could be brought out with just a little bit of work (and in some cases a lot of potential with a lot of work Grin)

Makes me sad I can't drive a standard, would love to own one myself.
