I desperately needed snows for our grand total of almost 2" so far this year.  :o ;D :rofl2: Of course I had to go out late in the evening to try driving in snow as by daylight, there has been zero snow on the roads. Sorry about being such a cheap ba$tard!!  :-*

Well, at least you admit it.... :rofl2: :rofl2: Not like those ppl who buy a $40K plus vehicle and then complain about having to put premium gas in it.... ::)

Wouldn't be without the full set of snows.  Aside from the added traction, with the salt on the roads in Ontario, alloy rims look terrible after a couple of winters.  Tires and rims all around!

Here's a good article from "The Truth About Cars" website that repeats the most often heard mantra on here regarding tires (and is correct IMO). It's too bad the great majority of drivers ignore their tires and don't know the first thing about them.

#$#%&!!! All season tires!!!
« Reply #90 on: June 06, 2006, 12:38:17 pm »
My issue is that so many "performance" cars in Canada are coming with A/S tries as standard equipment.  For example Audi A4 and Saab 9-5 come are sold with A/S tires . The 06 9-5 comes with crappy Pirelli P6 A/S tires. I used dedicated winter tires and then I have to switch to A/S for the summmer. I don't need or want them , I want a ture summer performance tire.  Worst of all it takes so long for the original A/S tires to wear out since they all seem to have 300+ tire wear ratings!!!

perfect topic to include all we know or think about the new
NOKIAN WR tire  "4 Season!"  designed to run all summer and has enough
blocks and sipes to earn the W SnowFlake approval as a true winter grip tire.
See the test report from Wpg....under Winter tires at CanadianCarDriver.
Anyone tried these....what city and conditions.  Are they noisy on summer pavement?   Prices paid?
Thanks

I find my Toyo T1-R 215/40/17's are ok in temps down to 3-5 degree C except when the roads are wet.  Then I really notice a loss of grip.

I change my Miata to winter tires on short notice at home around mid November depending on the forecast.  I change back in mid March depending on the forecast.

With my G35, I have to plan ahead as the local Bridgestone swaps and stores then for me.

Well I am sad to say that we can't justify dedicated snow tires anymore now that we moved to Vancity. It snowed 2 days last winter and it turned to slush by 9am. I'd love to have an excuse to use my old snow tires. But really it was necessary. Put it this way F430s are a daily occurence in d/t Van on January.  ::)

Time to resurrect this one. I'm going to buy my first set of snows tomorrow and am a little excited about it.

When we lived in the city near the station I got by with all seasons with no problems. Then I bought the Blazer and had that when we moved out of town. It was great in the snow and those early mornings at 04:30 when the plow guys hadn't even woken up yet weren't even a problem. Last winter I got by in the 6 with all seasons but luckily for me every day there was any significant snowfall I was off. This year I doubt I'll get that lucky. I was hemming and hawing about spending $800-1000 but now that I've found this deal for $350 I'm sure I'm grabbing them. I only have 2 1/2 winters left with the 6 and don't drive much so I think these will fit the bill perfectly.

So, now my questions. When do you folks in Southern Ontar-ar-ar-io put your winters on? Should I get them to put them on tomorrow or is that too early? The next week goes anywhere from 4 degrees to 18 degrees.....

Everyone hates us until they need us.

I think it depends on how easy it is for you to have your tires changed over.

If you have to go to a garage I use Oct 31-Nov 15 as my rule of thumb.  No line ups and friendly service.  If you wait until it snows or the day before (by weather forecast) you may experience very long lines/wait times.

If you can do it yourself, anytime after Nov 1 is fine.  It probably takes about 1 hour to do all four tires, just a little slower than the Nascar guys.  ;D  Don’t forget to use your torque wrench.
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Thanks Quad. I might just let them do it today since the are going to be test fitting them anyway. I can't see a couple of extra weeks doing much harm to them....Can it?

No, not really... unless we get some really warm temps into the 20s for a bit of Indian Summer 'round here (could happen).

I'm waiting as long as I can to put my snows on.  Hopefully not before mid-Nov... but who knows.  They're in the garage ready to be mounted any time.  If I had all-seasons, I'd probably wait until December unless we had a really nasty string of weather.  Last year I only had 2 snowfalls to drive through from January onward, the rest of the time it was either slushy or completely plowed before I went anywhere.
