So you live in Tsawwassen too? ;D

Victoria.  I'm lucky, only have to deal with Vancouver traffic on my trips to the mainland.  Mind you, ferry traffic is the worst for stop and go fender benders.

Victoria traffic is getting worse year by year too.  Only 2 "highways" entering/exiting the city (more like 4 lane 80kph roads).  If it isn't morning or evening rush hour, it's tourist season and you are stuck behind a budget rental car doing 15kph downtown.  Pain of having tourism for the economy.

In London we are in the valley here with a weather pattern that is not unlike some of the other cities. Mostly the terrible storms miss us and go 10 miles North or South of us due to the prevailing winds. We get missed a lot on the most violent storms but when we do have one Look Out as we do get nailed quite badly. We have had not for a while thankfully Snow storms that can reach 4 feet of fresh Snow over night. Its been a while since we have had one of these but this city has been cut off from all forms of travel for as long as a week in the past. Overall London has a very good weather pattern.  :)

Thewetson, ontario gets more snow then we do in alberta. But you are right about it CAN be colder. Calgary gets the nice warm chinooks,Edmonton gets maybe 10 days of -30.  As someone  who USED to snowmobile,I pretty sure we are getting must less every year. I sold my sleds, because of the lack of local snow for many years.
Enjoying the Alberta advantage

SHHH! If we let them know what it's REALLY like on the Island, they'll all move here and spoil it for us. Tell them it rains all the time and we constantly face tsunamis.  ;D

Right right! I don't want more traffic!

Last winter we didn't only have about 4 snow days.  And of those 4 snow days, we didn't only have a few inches maximum before it didn't all melt away.  And the coldest nighttime temperature last winter wasn't only about -7.

One thing we did have were dry ski mountians.  :(

They are pretty horrific, but not nearly as bad as in Port Alberni. I remember I once ALMOST had to wait for a full traffic light cycle. I dined out on that story for weeks.  ;D

Yer right, Laspalmas. Aside from the freezing rain and the crappy quality of snow it produces, Ottawa is a great place to live.  Out here in the western 'burbs, I'm 12 minutes from the office and 25 minutes from the cottage. The National Arts Centre is 35 minutes one way, the Corel Centre five minutes the other way. I can get downtown by bicycle without riding on any street except the one I live on. Fortunately for me, I work weird hours and never have to fight heavy traffic, so getting around is very easy. Ottawa is a lot like a small town, but with a nice package of big-city benefits. :)

"It is 7 degrees colder then Toronto in the winter time"

A little exagerrated, it's more like 2 - 5 degrees difference. As far as the winters being cold, they used to be consistently brutal but I have noticed they have been warmer in the last 10yrs and less snowfall. A lot more freezing rain than ever before...

I've lived in just about every major canadian city and I would still pick Ottawa hands down over the others. Victoria would be the only other I would consider. Also beautiful but more conservative and boring than Ottawa, though.

The proximity of Quebec and the mixing of Canada's two major cultures adds a lot of spice and makes Ottawa a really unique place in the world.

Bob D, I hope you end up in Ottawa, you will really enjoy it! ;D

Cheers Laspalmas!
