Recommended selling price '99 Civic?
« on: September 20, 2005, 09:26:30 pm »
I would appreciate any recommendations you may have for what I should ask for my Civic. I think I'm going to sell it privately rather than trade it in. Details are:

1999
<84,000km
Transferable extended comprehensive warranty until June '06
Replaced timing belt in spring when it turned six (also changed other belts at same time).
Very clean inside and out.
One side was repainted 3 years ago because it was clipped while parked on a residential street (very professional job at reputable body shop).

Thank you in advance!

Yes, what market are you in?

Plus:

Auto or stick
Exact model
AC or not

Sounds like an excellent service history.

Sorry for the missed info:

It is a Special Edition (SE) sedan with air, auto, powerlocks (but not powerwindows).

I'm in the Toronto market basically so I am assuming that cars such as your go for about 15% more.

Whatever the dealers are asking retail you will have no problem getting because of the service history.  Start at $9950 and work from there.

What is the story in Nova Scotia regarding taxes on used vehicles?  Are private sale cars subject to HST or what?

In Ontario the buyer pays only 8% PST on a private sale car.  For a dealer car it would be 15% (GST/PST)

I agree.  Here in BC you could get $9950 for it without much trouble as long as you have receipts for the body repaint.
