I'll second the Michelin blades from Costco. High quality rubber blade and well made metal frame. For $9.95 each nothing else touches them. My Passat uses a "aero" stlye blade that only the dealer carries ($50 each). I have been able to do some surgery and replace only the rubber blade insert but it is a PITA.

Winter blades are not a matter of choice based on the vehicle you drive, but the location you choose to live in. :P

Here in Montreal, not having winter blades on means you will be warming up your car for an hour, just to melt the ice build-up in the wiper. The spring loading has to be there for the wiper to maintain contact with the window, and the covered wiper is the only way that I have been able to do this.

I realize that at speed it loses its usefullness, but most of our winter driving here ends up at under 100kms.

Put on a new set every November, and throw them out in April. No need to spend a fortune since they only have to last a few months, but I would pay the couple of extra $'s to avoid the CT stuff.

I actually do the same thing and reuse my blades on a few of my other vehicle's. With every windsheild being a different slope and shape the tired blades on one car can be just great on the next.  I own 3 vehicles that all take a 18'' blade and pass them around when the main vehicle needs a new set. This has worked very well for many years now.  :)
