Value of a 94 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer?
« on: September 16, 2005, 11:59:33 am »
Hi,

Am new to this and was wondering what I would get for a 94 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer edition with 245K on it. Its loaded with leather seats, ac, power doors, windows, etc. Its in a fairly good condition except for some rust spots at the base of the doors.

Would also like to find out if it is better to sell it privately than to trade it in.

Thanks

With that mileage and some rust beginning, its trade-in value is about $2,500.  In a private sale, you could expect to get $4,000 for it.

That sounds about right.  In March I was given $2400 trade-in for my 94 Cherokee Country with 266,000 kms.   ;)  It was in pretty good shape overall.

Depends on what region of the country you are in.  In the southern Ontario market, with gas the way it is, it would sell at auction for $1500.  Cherokees bring more money because they have a following.  94 Exploders have no demand whatsoever.

A fellow reseller friend of mine in Barrie sold a 95 Sport, fresh paint and zero rust showing, certified, new rotors and pads on all 4s, 160K for $4500.  Got one call.  A guy and his son drove up from Bowanville.  That is before the gas crisis.  He wanted me to trade for it and I said forget.  I won't sell those vehicles to people.  I will sell Cherokees because they are easy to fix and keep running until they rot.  I have a 88 Laredo and we off road it and it just keeps on running.

Just trade it.

Thanks for all the info. Two new car dealerships have offered me only $500 for it, so will try to sell it privately.

If it passes safety it's worth at least $1000 - $1500

See how much it is to certify.  You never know it may need nothing.  Don't look for too much more than $1900. certified or $1500. uncertified.  That is based on a clean looking vehicle with everything working including the 4WD excluding AC. Winters coming and the 4wd demand will increase. :o

Would you be willing to hold it until november and get it certified  ;D

Also what would u accept for it.

As I'm coming over and looking for something.

Also i have to laugh at they way you go on about gas prices.  Wait till you come to the UK.

We are currently paying 0.96 pence a litre  (exchange rate 1 ukp = 2.04 can$)

If you laugh at the way WE talk about gas prices, then you'll laugh harder about how the U.S talks about gas prices. There's is even cheaper than ours.

Hi Haggis,

Will be trying to sell it as of next week, if no one buys it in October then yes I will hold it till November. Will discuss it closer to November.
