You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
Used Vehicle Review:
1998-2004 Mercedes-Benz SLK
2001 Mercedes-Benz SLKIf you want a stylish drop-top suitable for four-season use, this is probably the car for you, says Chris Chase.  The Benz SLK features a power folding hard-top which stores in the trunk in 25 seconds.  However, its high resale values, rough four cylinder engine, and lack of a satisfying manual transmission are turn-offs, he says.      More...

I really like the look of the SLK cars.  It was a bit depressing reading, all the feedback seems rather negative.  Poor engine + no manual/poor manual.  :(

I'll stick to oggling the SL500, thanks.

Yes, the new SLK is MOOCHO better in this regard from all the reviews.  I never had the pleasure (misfortune) to drive the old SLK but I did drive the new one and rather liked it.

ERROR ALERT!!!

In SLK, the "k" means "kurz" (= short).

"Kurs" means course, as in biology 101 or track as in race track...

In the UK (at least according to CAR mag and 5th Gear) the first SLK had the reputation of being a "Hairdesser's Car."  (Translation: a chickmobile or a ride for the limp-wristed, light-in-the-loafers set...)

I have a chace to try most Mercedes-Benzes, as well as both generations of SLK. The SLK230k isn't really a capable handler but its rectractable hardtop is a very appealing feature. SLK320 does take it into where it should be but still not a very capable hander. SLK32 AMG is very fast but its price can get me into M Roadster/Coupe and Boxster S. And that goddamn stick shift, it feels like "rowing a coffee" as Graeme Fletcher said in last Sportage MotoringTV review.
