Grade of Gasoline

I use regular unleaded.  I've often wondered the amount of people that put higher grade fuel in their vehicles then recommended.

Regular unleaded.  That's what it calls for, and since Subaru programmed the engine controls, I figure they knew what they were doing.   My theory is, if you use a different grade than the controls were programmed for, the controls won't work the way they're supposed to.  That's the way industrial controls work, anyway.

Premium unleaded. That's what Volvo say, and whhat with the turbo charger and all, I'm not taking the risk.

Besides which, with my driving habits the premium I pay over regular unleaded works out to less than $150 a year.

In the Highlander, the Manual says it runs on "87, but recommends 91 for improved performance" so I put in mid-grade and sometimes premium. Bullitt gets premium but I drive it little.

Regular for the wagon and anything with lots of carbs for me (commute by bike).
A subwoofer should only be noticed once it has been turned off.

Premium.  No 94 octane here but 91 will have to do.

91 is just fine for any vehicle today that requires Premium. No 94 anywhere in Calgary? Must be somewhere; the only ones that really need 94 are those with the older "muscle cars" with the higher compression ratios.

I think there's a place down south that carries it....it's just out of my way...and like you said, nobody needs 94.  The BMW runs regular fuel even though it's at 10:1 compression.  I haven't noticed any knocking and I was experimenting to see what I'd find (since it doesn't have knock sensors)....I may go back to premium if I find anything.

Along the same lines...  how many people put regular grade in and dump a bottle of octane boost in their tank?

And regular unleaded for me.  :D

Octane boosters are a joke….each can only add .5 of an octane level per tank.

I use regular on both my cars because I usually do only city driving 90% of the time. And 40% of the time it's stop and go traffic so regular is fine. If i know I'm going to be doing more spirited driving, then I usually upgrade before hand.

When I owned a gas car I just put regular, but put premium if the car recommends it (when I drive my mom's Celica or my bro's Jetta 1.8T).

In my car I put diesel, mostly from Sunoco, and have tried biodiesel from a station in Markham a few times as well. It does smell good, but the car is not yet fully compatible with it so I've limited that except for a few experiment runs.

Did you purchase biodiesel from a Topia Biodiesel station?

94 in Porsche because 94 is 2 cents a litre more than competing 91
91 in Talon
91 in Bimmer
87 in SIR
87 in Saab
stale gas from everything else in Jeep.

I have to use the hi-end premium in the truck engine but my Seville calls for reg but  runs much better on premium as well. My Fleetwwod runs just fine on reg fuel and thats fine by my pocket. I only use this car for the winter so the savings are much appreciated.  :)
