Car Inspection Centre
« on: September 12, 2005, 09:48:51 am »
I finally got a car and got a good insurance rate on it considering that I am g2 driver with  no prior car insurance experience "that's how insurance companies put it to justify the high rate!". The broker told me that I should take the car for inspection within the first 2 weeks. The broker did not provide with a name or address for car inspection centres. There is also a misspelling with my last name on the pink slip. I keep calling to follow up about the spelling correction or car inspections centres but get nothing but the answer machine!
Anyone knows where I should take the car for inspection. Any help would be appreciated.

Correcting the information is the first step you need to look after to make sure the registration in your name is what it is supposed to be. Whoever sold you the car needs to do that. Come to think of it this sounds like a private deal and if so you can correct it when you register the car yourself at the licence office by showing them proper ID.

The inspection is another matter but what kind of inspection? Safety - emissions or both?

Give us some more information to help you out and let us know where you are located.

I got the car from a dealer and my name on those papers is spelled right. It was the insurance broker spelling mistake on the insurance pink slip. The safety test and etest is dont and fine. the insurance broker told me that I should still take the car for inspection though I have taken only the basic insurance policy. I am in Toronto

Inspected or appraised?

If it's an older vehicle they would like to get a handle on the value of the car in order to know how much to insure it for. The only reason I can think of for them to ask for this is to ensure you have the right amount of coverage - and get more money out of you no doubt.

Ask the broker then to direct to to companies that will provide you with what they want.

I think Sunsity is talking about an insurance appraisal for purposes of collision and comprehensive coverage ultimately to prevent fraud against the company by the insured.  This is paid for by the insurance company (not the broker) and they dictate where to go.  Call your broker back and discuss or find another broker who uses the same insurance carrier.  There is a time limit on this.

Miss spell on pink slip no biggie.  Check your policy documents throughly for accuracy because those are legally binding contracts.
