Your Perfect Vehicle
« on: September 11, 2005, 09:46:52 pm »
I was talking about this with a buddy of mine today. We agreed that there are lots of great features of certain brands and models, but if all the pros of each car were combined together, then it would probably be the perfect car. Now, of course, we all have our ideas of what would be the perfect car, so I figured maybe asking what your perfect car would be. Would it be a sedan? SUV? Pick Up? Crossover? No limits really. I know there was a thread like this made a long time ago, but, well.... that was a long time ago  :P

So, I'll start off...

My perfect vehicle would most likely be a sedan. It would be a mid or full size and would have the safety features of a Volvo. It would have the interior of an Audi. It would have the slick stick shift of a Honda/Acura (obviously it would be an MT). It would have the performance, driving dynamics and RWD of a BMW. It would have the refinement of a Lexus. It would be availible with option Audi Quattro AWD, and also would be available in Wagon or Coupe varients. I'd give it around 250 horse power. And finally, price it like a domestic  :P ;D

Well the S2000 is a great car, but if it had to be my only car and have everything?

You know what?  That CTS-V looks mighty tasty.  It's a sedan large enough for the family, it's a beast you can take to the track, it's comfy lots of room, RWD tons of power, tons of luxury and has the price of a Domestic :)

Yes even jeremy clarkson from top gear likes the caddy - so it must be a good thing - despite the cheap tacky interior - which he complain about - that was a surprise.......I nearly fell out of my chair - stone the crows - will wonders never seist.

Supposing I had to create one car to meet all my needs?

If I could get a Subaru Forester with a small-ish turbo diesel engine, that would come durned close.  Room enough to cart my stuff, AWD and excellent fuel economy.  The other option would be a Mercedes E-Class 4-matic wagon with CDI, but I have taken the Forester off-road on several occasions where the MB would defintely not be able to tread.

Were I working at Subaru, I would work on stiffening up the body structure and possibly ditch the frameless windows.  I've been spoiled by MB's "bank vault" bodies.
No place I'd rather be...

A Volvo V70 with the Volvo D-5 diesel engine.

Powerful, clean, economical engine.

Seats up to 7 (5 adults plus 2 children in fold-down seats in the trunk).

Cavernous trunk to carry whatever I could ever need.

A bmw   330D   (  the bigger diesel )  six speed, Xi T awd  wagon.    BUT   I want a manual airconditioning system from the 320,    no sunroof,  a solid non metaliici colour that is NOT red, white or black.  No runflat tires, no active steering.

I think a carefully optioned  Gdm  one would do....    and I want it at $50,000 on  the road all taxes paid.

I will settle for a 535D XiT

I’m driving it now… :)..a sedan for daily driving practicality, awd for four season ability, rock solid Subaru reliability, and 350 hp for spirited driving adventures. What else could you want in one automobile?

An Audi RS4 Cabriolet... if such a creature existed.  Since it doesn't (that I know of... yet), I guess I'd "settle" for an S4 Cabrio.  Can I order it without that cursed electro-fancy-pants steering crap though?

My perfect vehicle will always be a Subaru Outback. However, to make it perfect here are my wishes:

1) either with a diesel or an gas engine which cranks out 200 hps. It should have a diet of regular fuel and fuel milage of about 22-24 mpg. The current 2.5 naturally aspired isn't bad but it can certainly use another 20 hps. Hopefully the newest improvment to 175 hps would help.

2) VDC should be std across the range.

3) moonroof as a stand-alone option for the base model

4) an aux input for the sound system so I don't have to rely on FM transmitter.

Otherwise I am quite happy with what Subaru is offering now. Just can't wait...

The perfect vehicle for me and me alone?  Assuming performance et al. is a given?

A retractable hard-top, a la Mercedes SL500.  IMHO, the most ingenious piece of convertible engineering in history.

A GREAT sound system with subwoofer, changer, and auxilry input for iPod/whatever.

Cylindar Deactivation

Four wheel drive and/or traction control

Awesome safety equipment (i.e. side air bags, et al.)

Those funky "turn as you go" headlights

Probably more, but off the top of my head, ^^.

My perfect car?  I'd need 2.

For $hits and giggles, A lotus Elise would fit the bill.  Fast, agile, lightweight, efficient.  Sexy.

For Practicality,

Gimme a CRD or Hybrid for efficiency.
Good family space, and it's not a minivan or SUV

Love it

A 500 Hp, no wait make it 700HP anything that gets at least 50mpg. That technology exists but the evil oil companies bought it  and buried it. ;)
