If they have the logo that means they have been approved....right?

It doesn't surprise me that they aren't listed on the fed's website yet.....

I am serioulsy considering buying this tire, I've tried the Nordic Ice Trac one year, and Michelen XIce another, but I'm going back to studded tires....they seem to work better for me, could be my driving style or the climate (mild & damp with piles of snow).

Thanks for the info.

Hi guys,

I need some advice, and you all sound very knowledgable to me.

My hubby and I live in the mountains of Colorado, near Winter Park, CO, and he just bought 4 artic claws, yesterday, so time will tell about whether he likes them or not. He had them put on his Ford Aerostar minivan (all wheel drive), because he had asked for an aggressive snow tire, so he got them from an Aspen Goodyear tire place, in a suburb of Denver, Colorado.

Now, I also need 4 aggressive snow tires, for my 1991 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan (front wheel drive), and when I called up Discount Tires (my usual tire place), 2 guys gave me two opinions. I would like your thoughts about the following tires, to see what you all think:

I'm looking for aggresive snow tires (my tire size is 205-70-R15), that would do well in deep unplowed snow (in case I have to face that, in my own driveway & parking lots, at times this winter, or, on Berthoud Pass, before snowplows can get to it), packed snow, hardpack snow, and icy roads, plus, I may need to keep the tires on in the summer, if I can't afford to buy a whole set of summer tires.

Discount Tires has these following brands available, with these comments from their employees (Do you agree with their comments?):

--Hankook (better in very deep snow than some other tires--is this right? These were the cheapest in cost, so are they good, aggressive snows, or are they just cheap?)

--Yokihama (has some "special" rubber compound making them supposedly better than Dunlop, one guy said, but tread may not be as deep as I may want?)

--Michilin (supposedly better than Yokihama, but costlier)

--Bridgestone (one guy's favorite for deep snow, but is most expensive one, and wears down the fastest, due to soft tire, to grip road better in summer, like going around curves)

Also, thanks for sharing that Arctic Claw is made by Cooper. Where my husband got his artic claws, they said it was a private label, called Power King, and was supplied to them by Foree tire supplier.

I'd like to buy new tires maybe today if I can, so if possible, let me know what you guys & gals think! :-)

Carol (in lower 48, Sorry!)

I just purchased a set of these for my Tacmoa. 31 X 10.50 - R15 from a wholesale tire shop. I live in PA, USA. So far I can say they ride nice but I don't know how they handle in snow. I'm told they will do good.

I am impressed so far.

Pretty impressive for something considered "no name brand".  No regrets so far, can't wait for that mother of all storms. :)

I have a set of these on our Montana SV6. Great tire for the price. Handling wasn't as dulled as expected...

I want to revive this thread from a while ago... as I'm looking for winter tires at the moment, and was recommended the arctic claw by my mechanic.  However, having never heard of them, I was a bit sceptical.  I was initially set on the Michelin X-ice, but having read some positive comments on this tire, I'm wondering if anyone else here has any thoughts on them?  Especially compared to the X-ice...

I understand this tire can be sold under different brandings 'Cooper', 'Vanderbilt', and perhaps others.

Did anyone else hear/read that numerous safety recalls that went out for Cooper tires?

I believe that this goes for the other brand they make, Dean tires.

I've read on one place that just issued their recommendations for winter tires for 2008-2009 that Cooper tires are amongst the lowest recommended tires.  Granted their tests were for the Cooper Discover M+S and Dean Wintercast SST brands, but you might want to think twice before buying them.
