CD Article: 2005 BMW 645Ci

You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
Test Drive:
2005 BMW 645Ci
2005 BMW 645ciFrom its over-the-top styling to its excessive size... the 6 is  bigger, bolder, and a bit more obvious than other BMWs, says Laurance Yap.  "The 645Ci isn't a friendly car; in fact, it's a bit of a bully. But that doesn't mean it isn't totally charming at the same time."   More...

COOOOOL!!  ;D

I have always like the 645Ci since it's intro. I even like the styling. I think they only bangle style that I don't like is the 7 series. The rest have either grown on me, or I've liked them from the start. Interesting comparo to it being a domestic. Im sure BMW will loathe hearing that one. Although if it were Barrie reading that, he would think it was a good thing!  :)

Another great article from that lucky bastard, Laurence Yap

What a gorgeous car.  I've loved them since the introduction and the words of Mr. Yap clearly describe the presence this car has on the streets.  If I ever have a chance to purchase such a machine, you can bet I will pounce on that opportunity.

PS.  I like how Mr. Yap used the cup holder for his cell phone.  :)

nice catch md.  you really like your toys eh?
the cellphone blended well with the interior that it seems part of the car's standard convenience features.

Funny, I thought that WAS a cellphone holder - the bottom of it doesn't look deep enough for it to be a proper cupholder. And I thought it was a rather stylish cellphone holder at that, using the same materials as other interior trim, and allowing one easy access to the tele.

Very slick car.

I love all the BMW Bangle designs, including the 7.

Terrific article.  :D

I don't love Bangle's Bimmers, but the cars are still damned impressive machines.

I like the 645 but at what price? It is no longer a car for the slightly-above-average-means "joe" any more. And that's fine, I guess no BMW fits that catagory. Having had 11 of them in my life, I know I'll never have another.

And I still wish I had hung on to my 1974 3.0 CS (coupe) !!!  :(

Although I don't like most of Bangle's designs, no one can doubt BMW still produces cars with great dynamic abilities. Unfortunately, for the price of a 645/650Ci I would go with a Cayman S. ;D

I'm somewhat of a Bangle design fan -- love the Z4 and 5 and 6 series cars, less so the 7 and new 3.

I've read other references to the 645 being a wickedly expensive, modern day Camaro with its silly use of interior space and long, sexy lines.

I'm waiting for Dave and Evil Twin to chime in with their sentiments having each logged many hours in the 6er cockpit.

Ha!  The word "cawkpit" gets censored?!  Geez, the dirty word nazis are gettin' a little carried away here.  Let's see, can we say "titmouse" or "blue-footed booby"?

Guess I'll have to refer to Daffi as a "female dog" which makes as much sense as a "female bull"!  ;D ;D ;D

Jeff, it's the silly word censor thing again taking over.  Off to the admin section to solve this once and for all!

Hey Jeff...thanks for the email.
Apparently I haven't been here in a while...this place has really changed. :o

Re: Yap's article, I think it was perfect!  He hit just about every issue I've ever had with the car (from the tight back seat, which my fiancee refers to as the leather coffin, to how easy the iDrive system really is).

I would have liked to have heard more about his driving impressions.  I have found the active steering to be a little annoying at some points and it takes away from the tight feel the our old 540i had.  But, like he said, that's what the sport button is for.  Regardless, it handles like a dream...esspecially at high speeds.

I totally agree with his remarks on the styling...it turns heads way more than the elegant SL500.  This thing has road-presence out the wa-zoo!  As good as it does sound...I think the SL has a louder burble (but maybe that's just the open top).

Jeff, would have liked to bring the 6er this weekend for our cottage retreat...alas...cargo room for 4 (and a dog) is limited  ;)

p.s. not sure I like the ivory interior....ours is the exact same (19s, black ext, black birch wood) but we have the upgraded leather in black...ala night rider :)
