Any comments on Goodyear Allegras. I've heard that they are manufactured only for Canadian Tire stores, but can't seem to find any info or ratings on them. They often come on sale, buy one get second half price, but I'm always hesitant in buying articles that are always on sale every two to three weeks at C.T.

CT has tires on the back page of the flyer 50 weeks out of the year. So it's no surprise that the Allegras are in there quite often. That said, they're a "get what you pay for" tire. They'll get you from A to B - but imo you'd be better off on a set of Uniroyal Tigerpaws or Dunlops... both of those come up in the flyer, as well. Starting around $100, as opposed to $50 for the Allegras.

With the exception of a couple performance tires, Goodyears are junk. If you're looking for good value, buy Kuhmo or Falken.

If your looking for very good all-seasons, Over the years I've had very good experiences with Dunlop Sport A2's, Yokohama Avids, Goodyear GT+4, Pirelli P6 Touring and Kumho. I realize that most of these tires are "premium", but I regard tires as one of the most important things on a vehicle. Its the only thing between you and the road.

When buying tires ensure you pruchase ones with the correct load and speed rating for your vehicle

The tires you've listed are probably some of the WORST all-season tires one can buy... They are made for mostly H speed rated applications with the minimal requirements for what might be considered light snow...

As far as the Allegra, it's a fantastic All Season tire... Excellent life, comfortable ride, and it has a lot of sipes in the tread, which makes it pretty cabable in winter driving... I think they are only S rated, so they aren't performance tires, but we are talking about all seasons after all...

Anyone else has some experience with these Goodyear Allegra tires? Last post was 2 years ago and hopefully someone bought a set since then.

A friend is looking for replacement tires for her Taurus SE and I do like the thread of the Allegra. All season capabilities is far more important than "high" performance. She drives her car like a Taurus should be driven...

As far as the Allegra, it's a fantastic All Season tire...

ya for the 1st 5000 km.

The term "all season tire" should be banned.

Had them on the Wife's '02 Civic when the OE Firestones wore out after what seemed like 12 kms from the dealership. We got more than 100k out of the Allegras. For the price, mostly highway driving and not a whole lot of horrible winters (this IS S.Ontario after all), they did just fine.

Just put my second set of Allegra tires on my Civic. I tried Michellen X radials for two months and I just returned them to Costco for a full refund. I went back to Crappy Tire and bought the Allegras. I was really pleased with thier snow performance.

I put a set of four on my CRV and yup got'um at CT. I like them. The run very true, are quiet and handle well. Having said all this, I'm not sure they are best tire for a Honda CRV but frankly I find it a challenge to find an "expert" in the tire business who knows what he is talking about!!

i have the goodyear allegras on my prius right now, they were so bad in the snow... well climbing 20 degree inclines in Surrey wasn't fun but that was because the tires were brand spanking new...

its been almost a year and tread life is down to 5-7 MM, hm and i always check my tire pressure and drive non aggressively (c'mon i own a hybrid for gods sake!). But I do keep them overinflated for the lowest rolling resistance, I hope for its 2nd winter it will fare better than last time. (which is when i deflate them depending on winter conditions.)

but on the highway there is quite a bit of road noise, but could be my overinflated limits, but good performance in the wet!

Just want to say that I have had Allegra's on my Grand Am for the past 2 years. I drive pretty hard, (let them slip a lot, playing in the snow). Anyways, they will still give me 60,000 miles before they're done. I know that living in Minneosta, I don't have snow all the time, but at least for 4 months. I will have to say that for the price on my light weight FWD car, these tires are great in snow. I'm sure that upgrading to a $100 set of tires would be better, but when I can get these from Sams Club for $60 a piece, I think that I'll buy another set here in a few months. The sipes go all the way through the tread, and even right now with 3/32 left, it still gives amazing traction with my 1 ton car, on hilly icy/snowy streets.

hm wow everyone is getting good snow performance, what tire pressures are you all running? We just got 20 cm here in BC and boy I don't want to wait to find out when my hard tires has reach their limits, but I thought I'd find more bad reviews on this tire rather than good ones, but it seems everyone is happy with their snow performance.

edit: just drove from metrotown to surrey and then back and i must say, much better than last year! I don't remember my tires being way better than when I bought them fresh last year, I guess maybe this brand in particular has a break in period? Anyway good compromise but I'd still want those gen 2 of the ice michellin series before really comparing.

I have (or had) the Goodyear Allegra's on my Mercury Sable, Ford Taurus and Honda Accord. My brother had them on his Maxima and recommended them to me for my cars. He liked them too.

They are quiet, provide a smooth ride and have excellent tread wear. I drove in a trip where we counted 50 semi trailers and 60 cars / SUVs (!) in the ditches during a high wind / snowy trip. Given that people were over driving (not paying attention to the road conditions) and there were some icy spots - but I felt the Taurus with the Allegra tires handled extremely well on that trip. The tires had about 12,000 miles on them at that time.

They are also excellent in the rain. The Sable (which has been sold) and Taurus are heavy cars and the tires wear very well.

The Honda has had a variety of tires - Michelin (original - not great in snow), Yokohama, Goodyear (other than the Allegras - but were bad handling - bounced around) and finally the Allegras. The Allegra tires have been the best all around tire.

I keep the tires inflated to spec. I do not over inflate the tires since that increases wear on your suspension system, increases noise and may increase wear in the center of the tire. The tires are rotated every 7,000 miles.

The only down side is they are rated with a "T" speed rating. I have a Toyota Camry which has Michelin "X" radials rated with "H" speed rating. However I wanted to change the tires to the Allegras but the store doesn't want to sell them for this car because Toyota has spec'ed "H" rated tires. The "X" radials have been fine - but I think the snow and rain driving will be better with the Allegras. I may have to buy them and take them some where else to have them mounted....

Of the tires I have purchased the past 30 years, the Allegra's have been the best all around tire - quiet, good in the rain and snow, not a harsh ride and good enough handling for our family. I drive on the conservative side but sometimes take clover leafs at 40 mph for fun.
