2005 Jetta GLI New????
« on: September 04, 2005, 03:18:14 pm »
Hello all,I have a question.I want to buy a 2005 Jetta GLI from a dealer and have got a request from APA for an invoice and any incentives for the car/dealership.The car has 8000 km on it I've been told the car is a "demo" and was "executive driven" in other words a commuter car. The warranty also started in November of 2004.Here's my question: Even with the invoice price should I take into consideration the car's depreciation. The Canadian Black book says this car is worth anywhere from $23,100.00-$24,600.00 the dealer is asking $30,995.00 before negotiating and is maintaining that since the car has never been sold privately it still is classified as a new car!!!!  Hogwash is what I say.Everyone I talked to agrees this car is a used vehicle and should be priced accordingly.Part of the attraction is the fact I hope I can get this car at a significant discount because of the mileage and warranty clock. What would be considered a fair offer for this vehicle? P.S. The original Sticker Price was $35,745.00.The dealer has "REDUCED" the price because of it's "demo/executive driven" status. How generous of them eh? ???

1.The car has 8000 km on it
2. The warranty also started in November of 2004.
3. dealer is asking $30,995.00 before negotiating and is maintaining that since the car has never been sold privately it still is classified as a new car!!!!   ;D ;D ;D The things car salespersons will say.

4.Find another salersperson, better yet call another VW dealership and ask how much they will give you for
a 2005 Jetta GLI, same spec as what you looking to buy, with 8,000km.

The car has 8000 km on it I've been told the car is a "demo" and was "executive driven" in other words a commuter car.

That 8000 km would have been a hard 8000 km.  I betya the oil was never changed during that period (10 months).

Keep looking.  Don't be a sucker and play their game. :nono:

Tell the dealer that, if it was "executive driven" for 8,000 km, then they should consider the $6,000.00 as a benefit to the executive...and that you'd be happy to pay black book.  If they choose to offer perks to their executives, that's their choice...but you shouldn't pay for it.

With a true demo the waranty starts when YOU buy the car, not a year a go.  I wouldn't even deal with those jerks....go elsewhere.

Its USED. So what if an "executive" used it?

"It was only used by a little old lady to and from chuch" Oldest used car sales line in the book.

Treat it the same as any other used car with 8000km on it. You can be darn sure any other dealship would treat it as a used car if you bought it drove it even 1km and tred to trade it in.

.

The classic line from new car dealers these days is that the "demo" in question was "driven by the dealer's wife".   :nono:

If that's the case, you might be able to get the dealer to CPO (certifiy pre-own) the vehicle.
You get 2yrs/40,000km on top of the remaining warranty and 4.9% financing.
So in theory you get more warranty than a new car.

"The original Sticker Price was $35,745.00"
Hmm.. doesn't add up properly.

(vehicle, auto) 33920 + (ESP) 430 + (freight) 595 = 34945
Still has an 800 difference. Specially alloy wheels?
