Amsoil
« on: September 04, 2005, 09:54:00 am »
I saw Amsoil at a Cdn tire in TO yesterday.... first time. I always thought it was only sold through Amsoil dealers.

And this is probably not news but I happened to notice that oil is now sold in US quarts (0.946 l) not litres....  hmmmmmmm
Weights and Measures Canada should stop this pernicious intrusion on our pure as the driven snow metric country.... if we cant buy gas in gallons why should we buy oil in US quarts...not even proper Imperial quarts. Where is Maude Barlow when you need her!

Now I know I dont care but I do understand why my car comes back from an oil change with the dispstick reading low....it only got 6.6l instead of 7l.  This bill of course says 7l

Quaker and Pennzoil is also sold in 946ml.  Personally I like it, because many 4 cyl. like my Echo take 3.78 L of oil.  Amsoil has been sold by CTC for over a year, most stores also sell Redline.  I used Amsoil in my Focus and always thought it was a great product, kept the oil in for 20k and changed the filter at 10k.  When I changed the oil it was not any darker than other brands at 8k.  I traded the Focus at 170k and the engine just purred, had to be the best part of the car :)  I don't know if I will switch the X-Trail down the road, it has been on Mobil 1 since the 1st service at 6k, that engine also purrs.

Interestingly, I just bought a 4 litre jug of Mobil 1 (from Superstore, for around $29) and it was 4 litres.    I also noticed that Canadian Tire has their large 'jug sized'  Mobil 1  holding 4.4 litres.

A jug marked 4litres really has to contain 4 litres 84im.... or the weights and measures people would be very unhappy

Even more fascinating...  now I'd be interested if the "jug sized" you mention was actually 4.546 litres but I admit I do not understand 4.4 l unless they got a great deal on those jugs 'cos they were too small for us and too big for the USA
