cats on my hood!
« on: September 03, 2005, 08:39:10 pm »
it's automotive related...  >:(
anyway, these bloody cats keep going on my hood at night. does anyone have any suggestions? after googling it a bit, there's no 'ideal' way, so if you you have a way that worked for you, all the better! I'd like to electrify my hood somehow, but not sure how I'd do that... my guess is the sprays don't work and just smell bad, and a cover is just a big pain.

anyway, thx in advance!

Depends how evil you are / how badly the cats are affecting your paint.

Could always leave rat poison out.  :-X

Realistically Im not sure there's much you can do. I recently had this happen to me, and all it took was for me to wash the paw prints off my hood, and it's never happened since. Then again, I put my car in the garage everynight (that's right, I actually use my garage for its intended purpose). But maybe you live in a high feline populated area. In which case maybe a friendly talk to your neighbours who own cats would be appropriate. "electifying" your hood, i'm guessing, is not only dangerous and mostly impossible, it is also quite cruel.

I love cats, but they annoy the heck out of me when they use my car as a bed. Because its black, the 6 is usually nice and warm in the evening for puddy to come in and enjoy a theraputic cat nap.  Havent really figured out what to do about it, but then again its an occasional thing. It'll become a problem the day puddy leaves claw marks.

i don't have a garage. also, i don't mean making the hood super charged, just a zap enough to show them what's up. anyway, i will keep asking around for how to keep the bastards off my car.

Electifying your hood (if you can do it) probably won't solve the cat problem, but it will certainly encourage a LOT of early rusting. BAD IDEA!  :(

That's just nasty!  If you do that you'd be killing some childs pet.

There are things that help.  Our cat kept going in the Xmas tree so I bought these repellants and you hang them around the tree.  There are two green wax like icicles almost about 2 inches long and they are attached by a string to each other.  They worked like a charm and are none toxic.  Broke the habit and kitty doesn't go near the tree anymore.  I wouldn't recommend mothballs because the odour is so pungent it would end up permiating the HVAC system in your car.

Or.... you could just let kitty have his nap on your car.  The probability that it's going to scratch the paint is low.  Cat nails are designed to penetrate flesh.... not metal.

Easy. Hide around the corner with garden hose. Sneak up and spray them, they'll run like heck. You might have to do it twice. Fun, harmless, and a solution!

Tell your goddamn neighbours to keep their cats indoors or on a leash.  Isn't your BMW more important to you than some cat or some neighbour relationship?

True enough!

With that being said though, I don't understand why people let their cats run loose outside. They love the cat when it's a kitten, thinks it's so cute and lovable, and then it grows up. Then it just becomes a nuissance to them so they kick them out of the house to fend for themselves. They have more chance of getting hit by a car, getting into figthts with other animals and starving to death. All because they suddenly become a burden. Unbelievable.

I completely agree.  I have two indoor cats and they rock!  In my opinion it is irresponsible of cat owners who let their cats roam around outside unsupervised.

Neighbour relationships are paramount.  2 neighbours across the street have been feuding for years and they ended up having to get a mediator to help them learn to live beside each other.  It wasn't pretty that's for sure.  No car is worth the hell the misery and stress that a poor relationship with your neighbour can cause.

why not get a car cover.that would most likely solve your problem.being an owner of 2 cats and 1 kitten,i never, ever let them out.but other neighbours do.went out one morning and saw cat prints all over hood, roof and even front window of car.took it to car wash problem solved.

Are you sure it's kitties? :)  I've found raccoon prints on my hood a few times.
