I throw out this to the cogniscenti, the financial cogniscenti at any rate. The canadian dollar has strengthened significantly vs the the US$ in the last year. I realize that the auto manufacturers set prices at the start of a model year and do not alter prices daily to reflect changes in exchange rates, HOWEVER some manufacturers seem to be more on the ball than others. One glaring example is the price differential between a Boxster sold in the US vs one sold here. Canadian prices:$64,100. US price:$43, 800 The CDN price is almost 50% above the American, yet the US dollar is only 20% (or less, today) higher than the loony. This is a fairly dramatic example, and I only fantasize about buying a Porsche, but it seems to me even cars such a the MINI show this unfair discrepancy. Yet the Japanese cars do not seem to have such a pronounced inequitable bias. So...is there any ay around this dilemma? Can I pay my local dealer in USD for example? Wait a year for a rationalization of pricing? Buy the car in the US? Comments?
