YAGRT: Yet Another Gas Related Thread

Signs have been erected on the pumps at my local gas station that read "Please pay BEFORE filling your tank"

I have no doubt some issues have already occured to require them to erect these signs.

Same as 1973 - I was driving down the West Coast in Sept 73 in a BMW 2002 from Vancouver to San Diego and back x-country to Calgary. Ran into gas shortages and closed stations all the way thru Oregon and N. Calif. Learned very quickly to buy gas often, when ever a station was open.

Lots of signs to pay in advance then also, to avoid "drive-aways".

This will pass, but makes for good internet chatter in the meantime.

Actually this is quite common here in Ontario as I have seen this quite a bit outside of London. I am going to Essex on Sun for a Car show and its been this way for years down there. I have also seen it in the Toronto area as well. Its the Driveaways that have caused here already I believe.   :(

I don't think I've paid inside a station in five years anyway.  Well, not true.  The moronic Petro-Canada in Edson has not discovered the NEW technology of pay-at-the-pump.  But, I was only suckered once as I now fill in Hinton on my way home.
No place I'd rather be...

The last time I went inside a gas station was to get the receipt that did not print out at the pump. The stupid :censor: was clearly agitated and gave me a hard time. She did not want to do it and I did not move until I got one. I gave her my condolences on her future career prospects as she was destined to make $7/hr.

I paid inside until I realized my debit worked at the pump...  but I swear to god it would be quicker going in, the connection from the pump takes ages.

Anyone have one of those Esso Speed-Pass things, though?  We've just signed up, but it seems a good idea.

I once had to pay before filling up at a station in Vancouver.  A pain in the CENSORED when you are trying to fill up the tank and you over-guessed the amount you could get in.

I have the shell and esso rfid things... aprt form the occasional fill up with Sunoco, use them all the time.
One iannoying thing about them both which does no affect me but will :censor: off some people is that the Cdn ones dont work in the USA and vice-versa.... seems pretty stupid to me as the credit card they work with would of course work across the border.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I always used my credit card to pay at the pump...Esso really annoys me because the pumps interrogate you about esso cards and car washes before they'll let you pump your gas.

On several occasions, I've pulled up to discover the pumps either don't have pay-at-the-pump, or the system isn't working...I just leave and go elsewhere.
