You may discuss our cover story of the day in this thread....
Test Drive:
2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTThe fourth-generation Eclipse GT coupe offers striking new muscular styling and more horsepower, reports Editor, Greg Wilson, but it's also a more civilized sporty coupe. "2006 Eclipse owners no longer need spiky hair, a tight T-shirt, and a cheeky attitude to drive one," he says.    More...

While I understand the rear seats are nothing more than a duffel bag storage area, the all black seats look out of place when compared to the front.  I'd prefer to see them all the same.  The picture of the silver car really shows off it's good side.  Mitsu is going mainstream with this car and away from the tuner crowd...it's no longer a boy racer like the Mitsu/Eagle twins of the 90's.....but I see tuner all over the Premium Sports Package (seats, audio, etc).  Lastly, 40K is getting a tad pricey for this segment of car.

For that price, would you go for big HP numbers like the Mitsu or would you spend it on a flashier badge (Audi A3, BMW 3 series) or a tried and true make (Honda Accord coupe, Toyota Solara)?

I also think the rear seats look funny not colour coded.

It's also apparent that Mitsu has matured the Eclipse (although the last gen. wasn't huge with the tuner crowd too much either).  Guess that's what sells.  But even with all it's curves and colours, I think this car is a good-attempt poser that won't appeal to the boy-racer as much as the elipse (or Talon here) once did.

This vehicle has made me notice and pay more attention to Mitsubuishi.  I think they've done an amazing job.  I do agree that the back seat looks a little out of place compared to the front.  I hope they offer the front seats in black leather as an option.  I also really like the burnt orange colour.  (Not sure what they call it).  I really hope this is a success story for them.

The Mitsu is nice, but for the same price, I'd buy an Audi.

40K should get you a lot of car and possibly an entry level fancy badge as well.  Not a lot of coupes in that price range but I'd be tempted by a lower BMW or Audi myself.

I think Mitsubishi has the right idea with this car, hopefully the market will heat up to it.  I've seen 2 of the orange ones and one black one.  I'd much rather have the black one.  The orange is too 'fad' like for my liking....reminds me of the orange 350Z.  It was a good idea at the time....

40K could buy a lot of fun...

Hell - I'd probably buy two cars - a used Miata for the summer, and perhaps an Impreza wagon for the winter...

Hey everyone!!! I've never been in a GT but I've been in a GS! and lemme tell ya, it is so freaking small! There is no leg room at all, none! I have a '99 civic and I thought THAT was small in the back. the eclipse really has no space in the back at all, even if the driver is moved up to the wheel. the roof of the car is also so short, I sat in the back and I'm about 5'6 and my head bumps on the roof/hatchback! My bf wants this car, I've strongly said no so many times, but hey, it's his money and I guess I gotta let him do what he wants. I've driven the car a few times too, it's really nice compared to the civic, lol, but other than that, the only thing that I don't like is the back part. I want the back passengers to be happy!

hey wing! I don't think he wants any other car other than the eclipse, he's wanted one forever. I personally never really liked em. lol. His heart is set. he likes the murano, but I don't think we can afford that. Plus, whenever we drive his brother's new eclipse everyone always stares! I heard that one time these guys turned around and caught up with the car and gave a thumbs up! lol not that any of that matters, but his heart is set, and I guess it doesn't matter what I say. lol

Anybody notice that the GT sits about 2-3 inches higer than on the TV ads..?
Check the space between the top of the tires and the body.

Any way my mother who is 70 thinks she will trade in her mint 1996 Neon with 30,000km on one of these Eclipse'. How would that make the marketing people feel ?

My question: if you want to test drive one, where do you go?  Mitsu dealerships are a little bit hard to come by still, no?

That said, I would look at one.  It runs a close second after the 350Z on my list of dream cars after reading that.  And for those that care, I think the "burnt orange" colour is killer, on either car.

I'd think about a GS RX8 rather than a fully loaded eclipse.

The front is nice but the back is just way too out there.

Im glad someone commented on those rear seats. Makes the interior look extremely awkward. Nice car though. I'd pick up an entry level luxury car with $40K. But that's just me.
