Is that premium?    reg is 1.20 in TO this morning...well it was at 07:30 anyway!
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

I filled up last night at .98 suspecting that this was going to happen.  Man am I ever glad I did.  If these prices don't drop I'm going to kiss my 10 minute commute each way goodbye and  start taking the TTC to work which then will make it 45 minutes each way.  Mehhh and they call it the better way.

Not worth it for a 10 min commute but I would hate to have to drive an hour or so.

I moved to save myself time and fuel 3 years ago, now it is paying off big time!

I compute that this rise from $1 to $1.20  costs me $8.55 per week extra.     I'll be paying up from 1.11 to 1.31 for premium of course  if it goes to 1.50 everywhere, that is 1.61 for reg then that will be an extra $22 per week so $100/month near enough.  I can stand that but I know a lot of people cannot. there will renewed cries for the Government to "do something"

the only thing I would support  would be to remove all taxes from fuel used for public transit vehicles including trains and commercial aircraft but probably NOT including taxis ( too easy to sell that gas on the black market)

Jeebus. At $1.48 it'd cost me ~$60 to fill my Accent's 45L tank. Ugh. Glad I don't drive that much.

I was watching the news... saw how 3 of the oil rigs had either sailed away into bridged or been damaged... that there was no place to dock a vessel in port anymore... the refineries on the mainland would probably be shut down for a time... etc etc etc... THEN realized that oil companies use any reason they can to raise fears and prices, and thought it would be going up. But when watching CNN where water's rising in New Orleans still and 680AM News said gas prices were suddenly $1.20, I went out and filled up at 92.9 (for diesel, reg was 98.9c) last night. I told the guy beside me that put $10 in his Blazer to fill it up - he said he was waiting for it to come back down and I let him know they'll be going up and at first looking at me funny, he continued to pump.

Not anywhere near that level in Durham tho - the Ajax Esso was 104.9 this morning.

Ticks me off tho - oil companies have DOUBLED their profits this year. In a single quarter, some $7Billion for some or along those lines. Craziness!

Did you actually see this James or it was on the radio? Gas prices in my area were still $1.05 when I left home.

Everything is 119.4 around here. I can't stand the helpless "We're getting *#$^(#^)@" feeling that I get everytime I see it. Absolutely ridiculous. The gas in the ground has already been paid for by the stations. Why the price jump already??? Shouldn't it be AFTER they get a load of the "limited" resources???

City, there is a law but nobody enforces it, maybe you should start the campaign!

They are not suppose to raise the price until a new load is received but they always do.

A gas station worked told me he paid 76 cents a liter for the stuff in teh ground

I had this forwarded to me today.  Can't vouch for the accuracy and I apologize for the caps.

----------
Don’t buy gas on Sept 1st.

If we have enough oil in Canada that we can export it to the states then why does a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico affect our pricing?

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE SEPTEMBER 1st HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THE GOVERNMENT TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE SEPTEMBER 1ST A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA SAY

"ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

If we have enough oil in Canada that we can export it to the states then why does a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico affect our pricing?

Because oil is priced as a global commodity, and those who own the oil won't sell it cheaper to you just because you're a Canadian.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

It has been thus calculated, has it?  By whom?  The only result of this action would be that the next day, sales would double.  Nobody seems interested in actually reducing their consumption.
