No Accord. Looking at Pontiac G6.
« on: August 30, 2005, 07:43:55 pm »
I'm broken-hearted :-(  couldn't get the Accord LX-G any lower than $28,600 otr -- that's the max this broke-a$$ bum can afford.

I'm now turning my eyes to Pontiac G6 GT Sedan.  Any advice?

Why not have a look at Ford's new car the Fusion,
based on the Mazda6 platform, with many styling cues from the  Ford Mondeo.

The Fusion is an option, good point S60.  Let's hope there are not too many 1st year woes.  Saltedegg, the Altima is still an option I would ignore the fear mongering thing. How about the 6, don't you like that one?

I would like to take your advice here, coz u know, Altima was my other option.  But, I have one that's giving me tons of tranny problems.
Did you mean Mazda6?  I don't know.  Mazda6 doesn't appeal to me and it is no cheaper than Accord LX-G either.

06 Sonota or something used but with very low mileage.

Saltedegg, Lot's of cars at one point or another end up with tranny problems and Honda's are in no way immune here.  Is your present car not a 94?  Yes I did mean the Mazda 6, my sis in law has a GT and on the weekend she's telling me about how many compliments she gets about this car.  But hey if it does nothing for you...That's what is appealling about the Altima, it's not so generic.

Saltedegg have you thought about a previously loved Accord?  There may be some 05 demos on the lots or some 05's that have been returned for various reasons...... (Relocations.... downsizing... ) You never know.  Check out Autotrader.ca

I'm considering leasing an Accord Hybrid so my dealer in Toronto may have an 05 Ex-L on the lot that's been well looked after and only 9K on the odometer.  :-)

PS Honda has some pretty attractive finance rates right now on resale.

I'd look at the Sonata too. Heard some good things about it, and they have some incentives on it too I think... Personally, I would stay away from the Fusion for now. It's not a domestic bias (although I do have it ), but I tend to be wary of first year cars. Case in point: Focus, mini, etc.

Love my new G6.  You won't regret it.  Amazing fuel economy for a 3.5L V6, top notch build quality and a very very nice looking sedan.  Go drive it, you can for sure get the GT for less than that and the base model (same engine/tranny) can be had for well under $24K.

$28 G's is actually a lot of money to play with. While i'm sure the G6 is a decent car, there are many other cars worthy of your attention in that price segment that you could look at. There have been some good suggestions so far...

I think the G6 is worth a look!!!
The GT starts at $27995,00 MSRP and comes basically with everything u need in car...

I dunno the kind of car u like, but i would look at the all-new Dodge Charger.
The SXT V6 is a fine looking machine and starts at lows $30k and comes standard with ESP+ABS+TC...

if u never considered it as an option i think u should read a little more about:

Saltedegg, for what it's worth, I just agreed to pay $29,300 (taxes etc. incl.) for my '05 LX-G. $539/month purchase financing. $28,600 sounds good to me.

Speaking of which, the salesperson advised I would get a call in the next few days and was very keen to have me give her a perfect "5" rating on the Honda new car purchase follow up survey. Why? Does it affect her commission? How much?

windfoot, i forgot to mention, $28.6k included the trade-in of my 94 altima gxe.  if you got yours for $29.3k, that ain't a bad deal at all, i would think.  i mean, the car must be really worth that much.  it was just my limited budget, one fact i have accepted.

anybody here know how much the base g6 (+automatic) would come to, all incl.?

i really like the looks of the g6.  But if you can spend 20-28k on a car you have tons of options, especially if you would consider a used car.  Why not consider a 1-3 yr old Accord, probably get something with some warranty left, often you can "upgrade" the warranty too.  Save yourself the the $$ you waste driving a new car off the lot.

Anyways, happy hunting - and be patient!

Why not get a Mazda6 Sport, get pretty loaded for less than the Accord and you get pretty low financing these days on 05 models. Also keep in mind that 05 model are in fact the 3rd year for the car. We got the 04 models for 2 complete years here... That's good for the value of my 04 :P

Base price sedan GS-I4 $23,795

Base price sedan GS-V6 $25,895

Base price Sport GS-I4 $25,495

Good luck!

The Sonata is the car to beat when looking for a mid-size vehicle on a budget. I'd look at that one first, and if you don't like it, I'd look at a slightly used Accord. The G6, while nice looking, is still too new and GM doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt when talking about reliability of their new models IMO. Give the G6 a good year or two before buying one... Although I'd still buy the G6 over the Fusion right now because I trust GM a bit more than Ford for their cars...

Maybe the new Jetta would interest you? It's interior space is somewhere in between a Civic and Accord and I'm sure you could fit one in your budget. With gas prices these days, the Jetta TDI is becoming en even better choice every day!

Sorry Shnak, but all the models you mentioned above need to be proven and the Jetta is no exception.  Don't get me wrong I always liked the looks of a Jetta, driving dynamics etc.  but like many I wished it was more reliable.
