O2 sensor change
« on: August 30, 2005, 06:19:42 pm »
Need a spot of help or advice,
1996 Honda Civic 1.6
174000kms, stock, can gets regular service, no issues except....

The OEM O2 sensor went about 2 months ago and it was time to change it today.
The change went well and I installed a new Bosch unit.
my "light" is still on.
Does it take a while for the new sensor to adjust?
It is the correct one and is properly installed.

Have dug around a bit on the net, no advice.
Any insight?

Thanks a bunch
I miss my motorcycle!

I think it might remain on for few drive cycles and then it switches off (i am not too sure, don't quote me).
Other way is to connect a diagnostic tool to ur car  OBDII and turn the check engine light off. If it comes on again after few drive cycles, then you have a problem

I am sure some1 here has a better answer than mine

Hi Ericthejet,

I had my 02 sensor changed some time ago on my 98 Civic. You should have a OBDII module to reset the Check Engine light. Afterwards you should drive your car around for a few minutes and see if it comes back on. I think I'm getting worst milage with my new 02 sensor (not OEM)... I get 475km on a full tank.

Matt

Have you disconnected your battery?

Thanks for the advice.
I had the batt. discon'd while doing the work and reconnected after the work, light is still on.
Maybe I have to get the light reset as the code may still be stored on the comp?

That's a :censor: off.  There goes 50 bucks down the drain.  That's OBD2 for ya.
