What is an acceptable size increase?
« on: August 29, 2005, 11:48:45 am »
I looked at a wheel/tire combo for my Protege that were 5% larger (taller) than stock.  Is there a percentage for height difference that is acceptable and won't affect the speedo?  Would a 5% bigger tire have any affect of the ABS?

That's a good question.  I recall someone once told me to try to stay within 3%, but no more than 5%.  I wonder how correct they were.

Morty?

I was told around 3% as well, but from an unreliable resource.

3% is a good rule. You want to get as close as possible to the original equipment OD. Keep in mind as the tires wear the OD gets smaller. So, even with the stock size this number will change.

Thanks very much, Morty.  You've been very helpful, again.
