That 318ic = crap
« on: August 27, 2005, 02:43:26 pm »
Haha so i just got back from test driving the Bmw 318ic that I was looking at and what can I say it was an absolute PILE! Things that were wrong:   http://www.repo.com/details/24373
-the top was misaligned
-the trunk didn't close
-scratches + dents all over
-engine made weird noises
-shifter was loose
-the top had tears
-many interior panels were missing
-u pressed the front power windows to go up and the rear ones would go down!!
-electrical wires all over
-random missing interior bits and pieces
-right door wouldn't open
-creaking
-nothing was properly aligned
CLEARLY it was rebuilt!
the only good things i can think of was that it ran O.K. had an aftermarket (read HUGE) exhaust! and it had heated seats...

Needless to say my dream of a 318ic (for now) is over, I'm actually glad though that it was so blatantly bad!

I don't think its fair to tar the entire lineup of 318's as junk as its obvious that the previous owner drove the crap out of it and didn't maintain this car hardly at all. Blame the one car but not the whole build of them.

Yeah, all BMWs are like crap, only the name is good for something, the car itself isn't good for anything. Dream about something else, buddy. You should really go look for an Acura Integra or a Civic Si; better yet, a Del Sol.

Barrie...I don't see where Saywhat tarred the entire 318 lineup...just this one that he was planning to purchase.

If you go to the main page, the car is designated as sold. Someone bought it.

Haha oh no no, i didn't mean to trash all 318's (just that one!) I'm still looking for a 318 actually.... (My dad owns a 2000 bmw 328i and we love it, its not as reliable as my mom's 97 Acura EL but a lot more fun!) Well, I have a long time to look for a car anyway, i get my N (full drivers liscence for those not in B.C.) in October. (well if I pass!)

It doesn't surprise me however that it was sold so quickly, apparently there were 4 people who already had deposits on the car... and there was also a line-up to test drive it after me...

Luckily my dad said that his mechanic has a customer that is selling a 97 328ic with nice aftermarket rims and with very low mileage for sale @ $19000 (he's moving to San Diego, chose to take his miata instead) If only I could bump up my budget just a little!

What is your budget?  Maybe you're parents can loan the rest of the money and you can pay them back (someday)?

My budget is $15000 before taxes, but with me going to be going into University next year money might be a little tight. That said, lets hope i get some acting work so I can make a little money!

There are lots of great used cars to be had for that sum...  early 2000s model Civic Si coupes come to mind.  Mid-late 90s Miatas, late models Tiburons...  all sorts.

Though, for a first car, I might be tempted to look for a 2000ish Civic base model and pocket the extra $5000.

Yea, those are good "sensible" choices, though I have a soft spot for Bmws and Acuras. I have an image to live up to at school! (jk) Although my dad brought up a good idea, if I can live without a car for one year he'll lease me a new Civic or Mazda 3 when I get into university hmmm maybe I should wait!

Is he also going to pay insurance for you?  Insurance for my 99 Civic runs $2000/year for great coverage (I got my L a year ago).  That's BC.

If you end up going to university in Ontario, say, you'd be looking at something like $5000 for basic coverage (or so I'm told).

An early 2000s car should be good enough for any high schooler.  Personally, I hate kids who drive brand new cars (leased or otherwise).  Your first car shouldn't be anything amazing, it should be practical.  Or, if amazing, it should be old.  Not a brand new awesome car.

IMHO.

Yea my dad will be paying insurance for me, I'll probably be going to U.B.C. so I won't have to worry about $5000 insurance :0 !

Lol, where I live a Mazda 3 isn't considered a super amazing car, good, but not amazing.

And it doesn't help when the girl you're seeing is like way too rich and whos mom is going to lease her a brand new Bmw or mercedes..(b-class, or 3series either that or she inherits the family Porsche Cayenne) When she gets into harvard her parents are then going to upgrade her to a Boxster!

Aaah, such expensive taste, but no $$$

Meh.. I always resented rich kids at school that would drive around in $50K cars. What kind of a life lesson is that where you never have to work up to anything?

My current car is my first and I got it while in school, but paying for it is my butt on the line.

Well, it's important for people (young and old) to have goals!

Plus ca change

When I was 19 A buddy of mine' father owned a Jaguar dealership. My friend had a black 3.8 E-type WITH A RECORD PLAYER...you cannot imagine how cool that was in 1965 in the UK.   I hitchhiked
