I always faniced a Jeep- there is an add in paper to day for a brand new Jeep TJ SE 4x4 $18,181 wow thats cheap for a jeep - as far as I know that TJ is ok reliablity wise - not the best mine - mmm tempting -  now I wonder If I could put a toyota engine in it.

Even has PT Cruiser for $15,164.00 - but I don't trust them

Both of those are in line with the employee pricing + incentives deals at DC right now. Note that the Jeep base is a 4cyl and the PT Snoozer is manual (good) no A/C (bad.)
Here were my DC picks when they initially posted the pricing to their site:
Chrysler:
2005 Sebring Sedan: $18,996 --This is the frequently advertised selling price for this vehicle. Not a bad value. Follow the oil change schedule religiously if you get the 2.7l engine
2005 Sebring Convertible: $30,265
2005 PT Cruiser: $15,939 -- Was similarly priced before the discounts but is seen by many as the most reliable car DCX is making right now. Not a bad choice if you like its looks.
2005 PT Cruiser Convertible: $23,393 --A convertible for the price of the base Mini Cooper.
Jeep TJ: $17,506 -- If you've always wanted a real off-road vehicle, go for it. Regular base is @ $23K
SX 2.0 (Neon): $10,841 -- Cheap wheels
Dakota Club Cab: $18,816 -- Good price for an OK truck
Dodge Magnum: $25,851 --only $2K off MSRP but not a bad value for a hot-seller.

Here's what they had posted for Jeeps

2005 Vehicles Exp Date Base MSRP Employee Price Dealer Discount Your Price
TJ 08/02/2005 $23,025 $20,806 $3,300 $17,506
TJ Unlimited 08/02/2005 $29,510 $26,512 $3,300 $23,212
Liberty (excludes CRD) 08/02/2005 $27,570 $25,406 $2,000 $23,406
Grand Cherokee 08/02/2005 $39,105 $35,617 $0 $35,617

"...now I wonder If I could put a toyota engine in it."

Why would you want to put a Toyota engine in a TJ?  The base 4 cylinder isn't that great, but the 4.0L inline six is a strong engine that will last several hundred thousand kms with routine maintenance.

I agree with MrThompson. The Inline 4.0HO V6 is a great engine. Very durable and reliable. I had one in a Cherokee I previously owned. Depending on the type of 4wd setup you get (I prefer the part-time steup) it gets pretty good fuel economy as long as you drive it mostly in 4wd mode. If you go off road Jeep (other tha Land Rover) is the best. The only drawback with Jeep is that the ride on road is extra firm. You feel every imperfection. At least I did, even after switching to premium tires.

That straight six is great.  I put 200K on my 91 YJ, and only had a small gasket leak in that time.

Fuel consumption was another matter.  It's thirsty.

Didn't seem to help the YJ.  I was running 14L/100km back then, even in 2WD.  From what I've read, the fuel economy of the I6 hasn't improved.  14L/100km is terrible for the class of vehicle.

In 2 wheel mode I use to get about 600 to 700 KM's on a full tank in my '99 Cherokee with HO I6 in normal combined highway/road driving. I always got better mileage when I ran either Sunoco or Petro-Canada. Anything else and my mileage suffered. Running a K&N filter also helped.

I had a CJ once... a whole lotta fun that vehicle!  However, be warned that you do NOT buy a Jeep for anything but fun.  Fuel economy sucks more based on a body style that has the aerodynamics of a brick... only worse.  I'll bet a Cherokee has better aeros due to it's longish roofline.

Anyway, if you REALLY want one, go for it just be warned that the I4 is wimpy and relatively thirsty, the I6 is good and thirsty.  They are fun though!

Oh yeah... why a Toyota engine... Chevy makes this wonderful little 5.7 that fits in the CJs, YJs... likely the TJ's too

Why don't you just rip off the doors and kick out the windsheild of your Buick?
Sometimes, the problem with your car is in between the steering wheel and the seat.

On a Cherokee you don't have to kick out anything. Just wait a bit, and it will fall off on it's own

The Chevie Small Blocks or the older Buick Nailhead engines fit very nicely into the jeep models. They are both a good swap over to a more exciting time with one of these.
