Buying used and getting it inspected
« on: August 26, 2005, 03:48:03 pm »
first off awesome forum. very happy I found this place...wondering if yall can help me out. I'm new to the buying a car thing and need some advice

from what I've gathered so far it's a wise idea to get a used car inspected by a trusted mechanic before buying it from a private sale or dealer, and that any seller who refuses to let you get it checked out you should walk away from asap.

however, how does one get a car inspected by a trusted mechanic when the car being sold is in a different city? should I still insist to drive the ~30 km to get it checked out by my mechanic?

How about taking it to a local new car dealer (the same brand as your target car)and pay them for the inspection service?

What are others' opinion?

^ not a bad idea actually.

I was also thinking of hunting around for a mechanic in the area before I went to the lot.
