Looking to sell new truck - how much is it REALLY worth?
« on: August 26, 2005, 05:32:30 am »
Hi everyone,

ive decided its time to get rid of my 2005 Dodge 1500 RumbleBee (second swarm).  there arent very many of these trucks around here, but ive already driven the s*** out of it.  it was sold to me at 0% financing over 60 months - and its got approximately 25500kms on it.
ive worked it out to approx. $32240 left to pay on it.

im trying to figure out what my best options are.  id like to sell it back to the dealership or work out a trade-in, but i dont want to lose a ton of money.  any idea how much my truck is really worth or what i can expect to get for it?  its still in great condition, oil changes and maintenance religiously, i just cant afford the monthly payments anymore (want to buy a house).  its really not that i CANT afford it, its just that i have to take that extra money and put it towards...growing up :-)

does anyone have any ideas for me?  i really have to figure something out ASAP.

thanks!

phone the dealer and ask.
I would hate  to see how much you will lose

Take 8K off what you paid before tax.  Could not be a worse time to sell that kind of vehicle.  We have one in Owen Sound but the only person I have seen drive it is the dealer's wife which is a sign that they can't move it new.  It will sell eventually with a good discount. It sure stands out.

You could put trader ads for the Buffalo and Detroit regions and see what kind of response you get from those.  You never know.  They may be out of them down there.  Totally different market.

Hopefully you didn't fall for the "limited edition" business and pay full retail. I would estimate that these now sell (at employee pricing) new for $4000-$5000 less than MSRP was a year ago. I would guess it's worth no more than $24-25000 to a dealership.

(It is a 4x4, right?)

My dad traded in his 2004 V8 Dakota extended cab, beautiful truck, ground kit and tinted windows and everything...  got about $20 000 for it.  Those trucks run about $30 000 new, I think.
