Before you lease or buy it check dealer invoice price (CarCostCanada or APA), then send e-mail to all local dealership (20 in GTA area), you'll get response in day or 2. Here is a sample of e-mail:

Geez, each time you post, it must take you a while to type your name F897... no, F89276... Sean!
Any particular meaning to your alias?
I am also looking at the EH and I don't think there is much to bargain for as they are selling pretty well. Depends where you live, if you are in a rural environment, it might be easier than in a big urban center as they are mostly city cars.
But like Av suggested, use the toyota configurator, you'll get a good idea of the price, rates, residuals, etc....

With an Echo Hatch, I wouldn't spend a ton of time and energy worrying about invoice pricing and so on.  There is little room to move on those entry level cars and even if you paid MSRP, you're not bad off.  The Echo HB is a strong seller in Canada, so be also warned that they don't have an inventory problem.  You'll probably end up $500-1000 off MSRP depending on options and model.
No place I'd rather be...

It would be almost a miracle to get that much off. You DEFINITELY won't in a province with Access pricing!!

I'm not sure if that's still holding together.  My neighbour bought an Echo HB the other day and she got $500 of the price and some "stuff" thrown in.  Worked out to about $700 in "savings" off what the total price would have been.  I figure that $1000 would be the outside that you could get in a combination of cash-off-sticker and extra goodies.  Max.  Most folks probably hit about $500, maybe a bit more.

I find that amazing, even in Alberta, but I have to accept your statement. It certainly does not tally with the BC experience. Of course it would be a 2005 close-out, but I'm still a bit surprised as the 2006 won't be here for almost 2 months and there doesn't seem to be any lack of interest in the 2005s. Go figure!

Of course, that price discount is off the full-boat MSRP including the over-priced PDI.  Also, she bought a fully loaded model with an AT which is thousands more than the base and might be a wee bit tougher to move than mid-line and base models.

You have to consider that the $200 in accesories (mats and something else I can't recall) cost the dealer less than the $200 allowance.  They're probably really about $600 off the total price.  $600 on a $19,000 car?  Not a lot of room moved!

I just purchased my Echo HB and there really isn't alot of room to negotiate. I got close to $300 bucks off my CE model.

Todays fuel costs are making this ride more in demand and therefore a "bidding war" could come about.

If you can get a 2005 off the lot, do it and buy it outright. The 3.6 % is a good deal. My payments are $327 a month for 60 months. A friend of mine leased at the beginning of the year and is paying 5.6% for 60 months and still had to put $1500 down plus $230 a month and $5600 buyout.

Who got the better deal?

Of course if you want a 2006, then expect to have it at 5.6%. Which is again more.

I hope this helps.

I would like to buy a 2005 or 2006 Toyota Echo hatchback or sedan. Can I buy one for 10 thousand dollars? or a good used one for half that price. Is that reasonable or not?  I can not find any dealers that can help me get into a car.  Can someone out there help me.  I just got back in the states and am teaching and have no car. My wife is expecting and we want a reliable car so we need one ASAP.  Please e-mail me. dartaniand@hotmail.com Thanks
