GB Licence transfer to Ontario licence?

Speaking of UK licenses, here's a question:

When we went to the UK a few years ago, we rented a car for a couple of weeks...of course, it was a 5 speed (Austin Metro, iirc)....but no one asked about licensing for a manual tranny.

Since they're so anal about licensing, how does this apply on rentals?  Anyone know?  Bob, are you out there?

10D Because they have the two classes of licence. Take your test in an auto and thats what your licence is for...take in a manual and you can drive anything...sensible really. If they really knew anything about North American driving tests then they wouldn't accept any of them

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

So, if you go to the UK and rent a car, who determines what you can rent?  Answer, nobody.

So the restriction is on citizens only, not tourists....

Saff you kill me, stop it..

Yep TP, you're right, I don't think they check anyone's licence from abroad to see what type it is, I don't think they'd know the difference unless someone pointed it out to them..

Saff, I'd say 80% of the stuff in the British press is untrue anyway, and 88% of statistics are made up.

It's true about a lot of press disdain for Americans in Britain. But I can't recall ever coming across much disdain for Canada, apart from disdain for the Canadian national cricket team.....

On an unrelated note, keep Sunday March 18th 2007 free. It's the England vs Canada group stage match of the 2007 cricket world cup.

It's David versus Goliath and I'll actually be supporting the underdog....
