Michelin Tires
« on: August 17, 2005, 12:56:35 am »
I was checking Michelin Canada web site, and some information’s are little confusing.  Tires: Symmetry, X® Radial and Destiny look almost the same, just they are sold in different stores ( Sam’s ; Canadian Tire ….) exclusively.  Does anybody have any experience with these tires, e.g. X® Radial ( sold only in SAM’s or COSTCO ) or Destiny (Can. Tire) ?  I was able to find some reviews but not for all tires.  If anyone has any experience with any of these models, please write your opinion.

All very similar as you point out. Difference is really the warranty. Destiny is only warrantable at CT, X Radial only at Costco or Sam's. They are very similar to the Harmony, which has a warranty that will be honoured by any Michelin dealer in North America (Non Big Box Retailer).

So quality of all these tires is almost the same, right ? Do you think that is safe to buy any of these for coming winter, I live in Toronto area. I know that is better to have winter tires, but right now I would go for all season.  One more question, is 150 all included ( tax+instalation+balancing) too expensive for Nokian WR 185/65/15 ??

Thank you,

I don't know anything about Nokian tires, but $150 all told per tire is a decent enough price...  a lot of times you get the tire, and that's it, for $150...

Also: the Michilen Destiny is a good enough tire.  I would suggest buying from Canadian Tire as opposed to CostCo/Sam's only because there are more CT stores in Canada than the others, and if you happen to need a flat repair you'll probably be closer to a CT.

Excellent point regarding CT, Demosthenes_x.  Another advantage in favour of CT over most tire shops is hours of operation.  Most CT service areas are open until 9 pm Mon-Friday, until 6 on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.

Those definitely aren't winter tires (as virtually all the all-seasons aren't winter tires), but may suffice if you live in Vancouver and park the car during the rare snowfalls.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D

Last time I bought a similar Nokian "Hakka 1" was 3 years ago, for ~$120 per tire for 195/65R15.  Tire prices have certainly risen since then (as have all petroleum-based products).  $150 sounds about right to me.
