New tires for a Saturn L200 2003
« on: August 16, 2005, 02:31:13 pm »
I've been calling around, trying to get recommendations on new tires.  I live in SK and money is an issue, so ideally a good all season performance tire would be good.  I travel 800km a week - highway, some city too.

The recommendations that I have been given are:

Cooper Touring SLE
Michelin Hydroedge
Nokian WR
Uniroyal Touring
BFG Traction TA
Toyo 800 Ultra

Pretty much the only ones I can afford would be the Cooper/Uniroyal/BFG's (maybe) and the Toyo's

Any thoughts?

If you want these to handle winters, especially living in Saskatchewan, then pretty much your only option is the Nokian WR.  They are the only winter rated of the bunch (in fact, the only winter rated "all-season").  Expect to pay more for these than the other choices.

"All season" is a misnomer, created by the car and tire industry together, to make cars (and replacement tires) more attractive - they are absolutely useless in winter for many reasons.  You could search through the threads here for the endless discussions we've had on why - tread design, tire compounds, etc.

That said, if you plan to have dedicated winter tires, then the best choice for an all season would be the BFG Traction T/A.
Suck, squeeze, bang, blow - who wouldn't love the internal combustion engine?  ;D

Your list  has some good tires on it. Longest lasting would be the Toyo. Great wet and longevity would be the Michelin Hydroedge. Great all around and a little less pricey would be the Traction TA. Snow performance would be the Nokian WR. Great value is the Uniroyal Touring.
