2005 Honda Accord [EX-L] Pricing
« on: August 14, 2005, 06:16:29 pm »
I plan to buy a Honda Accord EX-L [4cyl/auto/leather etc] but would like to know what kind of a discount should I expect give that they are clearing out the 2005s.

I was quoted 30K all in - is this good given that its mid August.  Should I wait until September when the 2006s are in?

What is the invoice price to start the negotiation process and what should be the discount [dealer & Honda] this late in the year.  Do the dealers expect to negotiate once all this disounts are provided upfront?

Also, any dealerships in the GTA that are upfront about the discounts and will make it available without all the haggling/negotations etc - I like it when they are upfront and the deal can be made painlessly and quickly- and I feel like I was treated fairly.

Thanks for all the help

cheers

Someone lied to you if you were told you could get a 2005 Accord EX-L 4 door sedan automatic for $30K on the road. If you can get that price please buy me a couple of them while you are at it. Even with the current Honda credit of $1350 on all Accord sedans except the Hybrid (it is $2350 on Accord coupes) you are going to be looking somewhere north of $32,350 which would be dead nuts cost including all taxes and freight.

The car lists out at $36,288.25, less the $1350 after tax credit bringing it down to $34,938.25. With a $2250 margin to work with, and assuming even a GTA dealer has to keep some gross prfit, you will likely be looking at somewhere in the vicinity of $33,000 all in.

2006s will not land untl very late September, by then if Honda Canada has cleared most of their 2005 Accords they may take the $1350 credit away. Or they may increase it, you won't know until it's basically too late. If you bought this car at $33K, I'd be satisfied that I saved over $3000 from list price, and the dealer isn't getting rich selling it to you at that price.

HSG, you sure you aren't mistaking the EX-L with the V6 model??  Isn't the car $30,100 + tax??

Wait even the V6 is only $34,880?????????

$33k after taxes seems right if you are paying MSRP of 30,100 - this majical $1350 HSG mentioned...

The Accord X-L Sedan with 4 cylinder and automatic has an MSRP of $30,100 + freight (1280) + Air Tax (100) + Gas Tax (in Ontario - 75) bringing the pre tax total to $31,555 at list price. Add 15% taxes and you come to $36,288.25. Deduct the $1350 credit and you get to $34,938.50.

That's why I said if he could get the car for $33K on the road he is doing very well. You can't get an additional $4938.50 (including taxes) discounted when the dealer has less than half of that figure in gross profit on the car...

The Honda dealer in Brampton was very upfront with us when we bought our first one.  They were also open to negotiation so we were able to chisel em down a bit.  Very happy all and all with the service to.

That is a good deal indeed. In Alberta right now (with the 7% tax) we would still be looking at $31,500 all in for the coupe, with the $2,350 discount. That's actually still a pretty good deal...

HSG, I'm interested to hear you say that Honda is giving those discounts for the Accords. I dropped by a dealership 2 days ago to see if they had any info on the 06' civic, and the Salesguy gave me all this BS about how the Accord credits were a special deal for that day only and for that particular dealership...

I can't believe that he, a car salesguy, lied to me!

since that Mohammed Bouchoin guy on CP24 tells everyone about all the dealer credits available there's no sense trying to keep it a secret...

I started reading "$30K all in" for an '05 new Accord EX-L and I thought "REALLY? Dang that's good... too good", and it appears so.

I used to say that in auto sales too... "I tell ya, if you can find it at that price buy it - I can't match it... and let me know, because I want to know how they can do it..."

Thanks for all the valuable insight - I went back to the dealership and discussed the pricing again with the salesman only to find out that he meant $32K all in for the EX-L [4cyl].

I guess this is more in-line with what I am hearing from all you knowlegeable chaps!

That still sounds like a deal that I might just take him up on - I hope he does not change his tune again.

I have also heard that Honda might increase the incentives stating in Sept.  Anyone have pricing info on the 06 models?

thanks to all those that have reponded -its appreciated!

cheers

Probably will depend on supply and demand, but I really don't see Honda increasing incentives any more from what it already is. I mean, they're giving cash discounts as well as giving out $500 gas cards in some cases. If they do any more, they'll be "lowering" themselves to Hyundai-like incentives.

BTW, just saw the commercials "up to $3,000 off"

Pretty good deal! Probably not for the Sonata though... Would be nice to pick one of those up at that price.

I waited until the first week of January to buy my Accord from Brampton Honda.  All in all it was a good deal.  I think traditionally sales are slow during the Xmas - January and some dealers are a little more open to negotiate because they're hungry and they want to clear out what's left of the previous model year.

So, how much is a fair on-the-road price for a 2005 Accord EX-L?

Welcome Saltedegg, right now with incentives $33k-$34k seems like a great deal.

Lickie is claiming he can buy one for $32K all in. which is a $300 LOSS if I am doing my math right... So unless the dealer likes selling cars below cost and then paying a commission to increase his loss, on a car that is selling pretty well right now with the $1350 incentive and 3.9% financing, or either he or the guy he is talking to is stretching the truth a bit.

Never really understood the idealogy behind claming you bought a car for less than you did... is it to make sure you don't look like a sucker??? Because if the number is artificially low, anyone who knows cost can see you're lying...now that makes you look like a putz..

Well I got mine in June for a little under $33k all in.  That included the gas rebate which I believe is the same value as the current offer.  By a little under I mean around a hundred dollars.  Anyone claiming $32k all in is probably not figuring their trade in or perhaps not being totally honest about how much (or little) they got for it.  For instance with my trade in I paid under $30k though saying that I paid that for the car is not being totally accurate.
