Trunk/cargo net question

A cargo net came standard with my X-Trail, along with grocery-bag hangers and lots of tie-down points. But a couple of baskets are still handy for smaller things: one for stuff that stays in the car like a blanket, tarp, umbrella, booster cables, washer fluid, scraper, litre of oil and a few basic tools; another basket for stuff you need that day, like a cooler, change of clothes, jacket and any recreational gear you might want. I lined the bottom of the baskets with thin foam to keep them quiet, and bungie them to the cargo loops to keep them in place. Total cost: maybe $6.

I stumbled upon this.  Your suggestions are all good with the exception of defeating the purpose by just throwing stuff in.   I just phoned Honda and they want 115 + tax for a cargo net.  Over my dead body am I forking that out for a mess of rubberized string.  I guess the dealer has to make a profit somewhere.

Thewetson:  Why don't you go to the nearest Ford dealer, order the cargo net for the Ford Focus (aobut $50.00 bucks I think) and install it in your Honda.  A friend of mine did that with his Civic and it works great.......take the extra money you saved by NOT buying the Honda one at over $100.00 bucks and go out and have a few pints!  IMO.

I would call around to the various dealers of all makes and price the cargo nets out for other similar sized model cars. Basically they are all the same size and shape somewhat so you may find a better bargoon out there yet. Let your fingers do the walking even at the wreckers as there you might just strike Gold on your needs. The Money saved is better in "Your Pocket" then theirs.  ;D

I paid $10 for a cargo net at Wal Mart for the back of my Matrix.  It came with adhesive hooks to attach to the walls, but I didn't want to make marks on my car.  So I bought some velcro strips, made a loop and used that to attach the net to the hooks that were already in the back of the car. It takes no time at all to put it up or take it down and when I am not using it, it takes up no room.

I ended up going to Crappy Tire and getting the foldable trunk organizer.  It works like a charm.  I like the velcro tabs on the bottom that stick.  $20 plus tax.   I can live with that.  Thanks for the advice.
