Ahhhh...finally.  Someone that actually KNOWS, or at least can look it up.

A see a gazillion Altimas everyday.  Nissan must be going to overtake GM soon.  Oh wait...it's the same one in the parking lot every time I walk by the window.

The prevalence of a particular brand of automobile in a given city/area depends on the existence and success of a local dealership of said brand.

True and I don't know why that is, because the 6 is a beautiful car.

Agree MrT, here where I live outside Ottawa we are surrounded by Fords.  That's because these 2 dealerships are probably the best Ford dealers you can come across, top notch service.

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 3 /CNW/ - Nissan Canada Inc. recorded its best July
ever last month, selling 6,622 units versus 6,264 a year ago -- an increase of
358 units or 6 per cent.
The Nissan X-trail sold a record breaking 1,165 units, up 190 units over
June 2005 and 181 units over the previous July. The X-trail was part of a very
strong showing by Nissan's truck division.
The Nissan Altima again led the way for cars with 1,803 units sold, up
411 units over July 2004.
Infiniti Sales were led by the G35 models - the sedan and the coupe
accounted for 396 units, while the all new M kept momentum going in its record
breaking year with 92 sold during July.

Nissan is not so popular to me because it's entry level car, (usually #1 selling car), the sentra, is boring and years behind a scheduled revamp.

The Sentra is a very important vehicle for Nissan, and they went back to the drawing board to upgrade the next-gen Sentra. They'd rather be late than outclassed in the vital compact segment.

I think the next Sentra will be worth the wait.  If Nissan does not come out with something as spectacular as the Mazda 3, to me they will have missed the boat.

IMO, there would be much more Nissan cars around if there were more dealers. Just checked the Nissan Canada website, there are NO Nissan dealers in BC which are north of Kamloops. From an area standpoint, that's well over the half the province without a single Nissan dealer.

This is very similar to Mazda cars too. Except for a dealer in Terrace which is near the North coast of BC, there are NO Mazda dealers north of Kamloops.

Driving around town, there are many domestics and imports like VW, Honda and Toyota. Just see the occasional new Nissan and new Mazda.

True that their dealer network is a bit smaller.

Currently Nissan is a hit and miss in Canada. The problem is that in the last 5 years, it has developed products for the US market (i.e. SUV and trucks, Titan, Xterra, Pathfinder, Armada...) and has generally ignored our smaller product preference in Canada, except for bringing the Xtrail which was very smart (selling well in Ontario).

Nissan produces numerous great small cars for Asia and Europe and it is amazing that there are not accelerating bringing them here. The Micra for one would be a great Echo fighter.

Nissan better get on the smaller car business in America because even the US market has commenced changing to smaller, although slowly. Gas prices will not go down (my prediction), it can only go up.

In and around Kingston Ontario, I see many Altima and Xtrail, but few of everything else from Nissan.

Anyways, I don't think sales numbers of the Altima are extremely good

FYI July 05

1800 Altimas
1200 X-Trails

If Altima sales dying, probably Nissan already died.

The Nissan 350Z is a very nice car indeed!!

Also Mazda once won the "most reliable manufacturer in the UK" award, they spend the least amount of time getting repaired in the garage, a slightly more objective stat than an owner survey...

Will be interesting to see how this does..?

Mazda also is the most highly regarded Japanese carmaker in German press. Thanks to their innovations, sleek design and European-like handling dynamics.

I don't notice Nissan cars the way I do Mazdas...  Mazda has an edge in styling, I think, for sure.  I see plenty of Infiniti vehicles on the road, though.
