Barrie, I'm not challenging your point, but I must say, I'm pretty good from judging cars from afar

I'm with BB, I'm also pretty good (If I do say so myself) in being able to distinguish cars from a good distance.  It must be the young keen eyes... :-)

I understand your thought BB but now a days you have to admit many cars do resemble each other, you are a Car Freak like the rest of us and are more in tune then the average Joe on the street. Your eyes are younger then mine and I am still driving a 33 year old Vehicle Dailey. I have always liked the bigger cars for the safety aspect and the Big Car Ride as they are the best. I am older then you by a few years and seen a lot of vehicles in my time. I remember when everybody had their own unique shapes thats all.  Certainly not knocking anything you have said but they all look the same to me nowadays.

The overall shape of cars are very similar these days...but you look for certain cues that help you distinguish one car from another.  Grille design, taillights, rims etc.  It's pretty fun.

Yup, Mdx is right. Certain features that he mentioned gives away what car is what. Although your point is well taken Barrie, there is a lot of copying from manufacturers going on, and I'm sure not everyone can spot the difference between a corolla and a new jetta from far away like mdx and I can

Cars of a given era have always looked the same vis a vis their contemporaries. Take a look at late 1960’s coupes:

69 Mercury Cyclone
Mercury Cyclone

69 Charger
Dodge Charger

67 AMC Marlin
AMC Marlin

Differences in the details, but the same overall shape, no different than today.

BT, I was going to post something similar but didn't want to start an argument

More seasoned people seem to agree that today's cars all look the same, but us unexperiensed folks see the same thing of cars of the past.  A lot of older cars look the same to me, but new cars I can pick out like no tomorrow.

BT you are right about the similarity with those cars but because of the sizes of them and the general overall shape they were much easier to know what they were even back then.  To me the new cars are all too rounded and harder to figure out what they are from a distance unless you can see the grills or even the taillights on most of them to-day. There are certain wheels even that can set them apart but most are just rounded front and rear ends.

I find it harder to tell the newer ones apart-especially the aisian makes. They all seem to have standard amorphous styling.

Wow there Revolution, not everybody likes GM cars but Millions of Folks Do. No-one makes a perfect car or vehicle yet but Myself and others here do like the GM products.  We all have our faverite makes and models but try not to knock the others that badly.
