Hello.
Several months ago, I had posted a message describing the pinging problem of my car.
Basically my new car pings under load, for example, when AC is on or when crusing on uphill.
I searched this forum and found a car with the same problem (2002 Legacy).
Most people with this problem had to try all sort of things without much success.
At least I am not the only Subaru owner with this issue.
I had some spare time today, so I took the car to the service department.
At the end of the day, they told me that a technician testdrove it and experienced the pinging problem I described to them.
BUT they said there is nothing they can do to resolve this issue at the moment.
They admitted that this issue exists on some Subaru cars they serviced.
The only thing they were able to do was reporting this problem to the Subaru of Canada (I have no idea what this can do to my car though).
They told me the most important thing is the fact that we filed this problem, so I can say something if this problem leads to any major issue with the car in the future.
Their final position is that they want to wait until Subaru issues a service bulletin on this.
However, my overall impression is that they just don't want to be involved with this issue because they know finding and fixing the source of pinging will take a lot of time, effort and money without any guarantee.
Afterall, the general conception is that pinging doesn't harm the car much.
Should I live with this car by trying to ignore the annoying pinging sound or should I try to fix it probably by travelling to the service department dozens of times?
Or should I try to contact the manager of the dealership? They sold me a defective car and the service department cannot fix it (or they don't know how to fix it).
What are your suggestions?
Thank you in advance.
