99 prelude tranny fluid n oil change
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:45:16 pm »
I have my next oilchange coming up and I wanted to put in something that would equate to better performance. I currently use castrol syntec oil 10w30, and normal honda atf transmission fluid. Thinking of changing that to improve how my car running, any recommendations on types of motor oil and tranny fluid for this car?

Most of the people here will say switch over to synthetic oil for the engine and the same also for the tranny. I use Castrol syn in my auto trannies as it is rated the best at the moment for trannies.

What type of tranny?

Castrol "synthetic" is not true synthetic just so you know.

Its an auto transmission with the tiptronic option.

So what is a true synthetic? What type of oil do you recommend?

I believe Steve was referring to the Castrol Motor oil and not the tranny fluid.

Be careful about what automatic tranny fluid you use in a Honda.  They have always used a different mix.  I would stick with Honda ATF only and have it flushed at a Honda dealer unless you have a good Honda shop.

You check Hondas autos cold with engine not running; opposite domestic cars.
