When are 2005 models usually gone by?
« on: August 01, 2005, 12:47:07 pm »
For a variety of reasons, I won't be in the market for a car until at least this Christmas. I'd like to get a 2005 model for the savings, but is that just wishful thinking? In particular, I'm looking at the Subaru WRX, which is having major changes for '06. However, I'm also curious about the general industry trend on this matter as well.

I could also wait until summer '06, when it seems manufacturers are trying to move year-end models off the lot. What do you think?

and yes I know I missed out on the employee pricing mayhem in July, during which I apparently could have bought a Saab 9-2x Aero for 28k, oh well.

Very good question!!  Starting to wonder about that myself (a little too late though!)
I like you was looking at getting a 2005.  I started looking about a month ago.  The Ford dealerships were telling me to make my choice/purchase within the 2 to 3 week time frame as they wouldn't really have much left to choose from if anything at all.  Their 2006 models were on some lots about 3 weeks ago.  Now it's nearly impossible to find their mid-level mini-SUVs. The Hyundai dealer told me they wouldn't have their 2006 prices out til October and didn't expect inventory til then.  I suspect your ability to get the vehicle of your choice depends on how 'popular' it seems to have been and how the sales have been.  Based on my very limited experience to date I get the impression the time to look at getting the present year's model is to do it beginning of summer - the various dealership lots are looking pretty bare now around where I live.  By then the manufacturer/dealers may have various incentives and rebates to start moving the inventory and getting ready for the fall.
Mind you if you are ready to take the vehicle in whatever color they have and aren't fussy about the options then maybe waiting isn't an issue??

Welcome, Frog.  I've noticed September seems to be the month of the large car sales.

It all depends. To get a certain type of Ford Focus today is next to impossible in Ontario since the '05 models are practically sold out.

Ditto for the '05 Mustang.

Some dealers already have the '06 Escapes in stock.
If you're interested in a hybrid Escapes, there are lots of '05s around.

It all depends on the manufacturers, but after August, there will be fewer and fewer '05s available.

With the GM discount, a loaded 92X Aero is even cheaper than a WRX. Looks good, better equipped and lower insurance rate! 5MTs may be scarce now, but I'm sure there may still be a few Auto Aeros left. Go for it!

Dongo of all the cars that Honda sells the Odyssey is the least likely to get an incentive finance rate. There are hardly any 2005 Odyssey EX models left in the province of Ontario, there are some LX models but they are also getting scarce. Availability of the higher end models is a bit better, but then of course your start point is $38,900 and higher.

Pilot has a 3.9 finance rate and $3000 credit back from the factory. But neither is happening on Odysseys, you can count on that....

Supply and demand is what dictates the deals from the manufacturers. And in the first year of production, with the critical and sales success of the new Odyssey, Honda has no reason to do anythig drastic to help them sell this vehicle.

Thanks Hondasalesguy!  That is not fair....haha! Honda in BC had big newspaper ads w/ 1.9%, but the little fine print at the bottom stated that it was only on the civics and the pilot. You can be sure that I had a smile on my face for a few seconds!!
