Hi All,

I was wondering if I had to drain the coolant to replace the thermostat in my 2000 Impala LS/3.8LV6?

No not all of the fluid but you will have to lower the level about 6". to be beneath the top rad hose level. Make sure you put the new 195deg stat in the same as the one coming out as it is very important to your system to have it installed the right side up and possibly which side is the front as well. When you are done and have filled the rad again make sure to run the engine with the heater on Hi-fan and Heat setting to get any airlocks out of it as well. When you feel lots of heat in the cabin you know you should be alright. There will be no air locks.
