what is the difference between repairing a part and reconditionning it?

To me they are both parts that have been rebuilt, one way or another. They end up being made new again and fit to reuse. Thats my view.

Repairing is just that: you take a bad alternator that has a faulty regulator and fix only the regulator.
Rebuilding is replacing many parts on it that may fail later du to age. Ex.: bearings, brushes etc...
