New car....Tires loose?
« on: July 21, 2005, 01:57:36 pm »
I just got a new car (2005 Optra 5), and after 2000kms (mostly on the gawdly 427 south) I found that all the bolts were all really loose on all four tires.  Is this common with new cars, or do I have an enemy?

NO, that is not common.

Either the car was not prepped properly when you bought it at the dealership OR, occasionally, lug nuts, particularily on alloys, can work loose sometimes if they haven't been torqued on with enough pressure. Hopefully, you did not do any damage to your wheels or lugs. Not a good thing to have happened.

Perhaps they just overlooked proper torque in the pdi. Were they actually loose enough for the wheel to be wobbling? Or did they just seem loose?

After my lost wheel incident, I am planning to torque my wheels monthly with a torque wrench.

And check my tire pressures monthly.
