You will note that that is the EDITOR'S "most wanted" list. Their CONSUMER'S "most wanted" list for SUV under $25k US is the CRV. I like Edmunds and read their forums a lot; but I think the site-editors get a bit "bought" occasionally. IMO.

I certainly agree with you! They seem to often occupy a planet unknow to me, and apparently, to other automotive reviewers.

But they seem to be known to a lot of good reviewers who know what they are saying and doing. We can't all like the same cars but this is one of the best out there at the moment for the money. GM is making headway on their quality and value for the price as this model shows.

Are they selling them at a profit, or is it just another GM loss leader?

But with that engine? What is it, 3.5L for 180BHP or thereabouts? That must be a really old engine design - reliable yes, attractive? Hmmmm. Not compared the engine in the Vue V6. Maybe they chose this on price alone.

Always the same story with GM... build a vehicle with somewhat interesting exterior design, slap a cheap standard interior, pick one of their 30 year old engines and price it low enough that even with all its flaws, some people will buy it.

Only new engines that came out of GM in like 30 years are the Ecotec and the 5 cylinder in the Colorado.

Sounds to me like that 5-cylinder is getting great reviews and would be the perfect candidate for the Equinox!!

IIRC, the engine used in the Equinox is manufactured (at least in part) in China.

I agree with Shnak - license Honda's engine technology for goodness sake!

Well that would be even better... put Honda's 3.5L engine along with their 5-speed automatic transmission in the Equinox like they did for the Vue and I think sales would increase a lot!

But even with Honda's powertrain, all GM has to do is either use the new 3.5L V6 that is in the G6, or even the 5-cylinder that is in the Colorado. Those two engines would be a lot better, smoother and better on gas than what's in the Equinox.

I think the Equinox looks pretty good. And the rear seat is super freakin' huge.

Interior is alright - certainly better than the VUE. And with a V6 at the same price as a 4-cyl, not to mention it being much bigger than the import SUV's, I can see why it's selling well here and in the US.

By what means did you test the rear seat?  Were you alone?

I don't mind the exterior styling, except for the tail lights.  I ain't done never been in one so I can't comment on the interior.

Since when is the 3.5 30 years old. Sounds like more statements from someone who hasen't got a clue as to the age of this design. The GM 3.5 has not been around very long and is of a new design. Many of GM's 30 year old designs are still the racers choice for HP and durability. They are good enough for the racers so they are certainly good enough for the average car owner. Snack its very obvious that you do not know anything about the GM engines so why continue to impress us with your lack of knowledge on them.

Hey I did say that I wish GM would put the 3.5 into the Equinox as its getting pretty good reviews for its use in the G6. From what I read, the 3.5L is another revision/update of an older engine GM designed some 30 years ago.

GM Powertrain has and will be coming out with some mighty competitive stuff, so I don't tend to harp on GM's engine/transmission combos.
