In response to Sterling's post, I think Toyota's said that in response to selling too many trucks in NA. If Toyota has that problem, surely GM/Ford/DC has the same problem if not worse. The Big3's mix is more heavily trucks than Toyota's is.

"I wish - should be when they get older and have LESS money, Echo is waiting for them."

I resemble that remark Ovr!

I think I mentioned elsewhere that my dad is looking at a 4Runner.  Because the base Lexus RX330 is similarly-priced to the 4Runner Limited, I picked up a Lexus brochure for him.  On the cover is a picture of the front door of a rather extravagant home, but no RX330.  I loved my dad's reaction:

"They didn't even put the car on the cover!  That's about as arrogant as you get."

The luxury brands are never about needs.  Nobody NEEDS a Lexus, BMW, Porsche etc.  It's all about I want....and I can.

Cphansen - but the RX330 and the 4Runner Limited are very different beasts - luxo AWD hiway crossover vs. semi-luxo truck-based SUV. Yes, they may be close in $. Why not a Highlander Limited and not have the rougher ride of the 4Runner and not the expense of the RX? A loaded HL Limited s/be about MSRP of $48K.

You have to admit Lexus brochures are very well printed with nice pics, not to mentioned high-quality paper too. Its very obvious when compares to other Japanese premium brands.

Yep, he also wanted to confirm that it was free.

The RX330 and Highlander fail for the same reasons - the 2nd row seats don't fold down perfectly flat, both are rated lower for towing, and he can't use his existing Expedition snow tires on them.  lol

Besides, a 4Runner Limited V6 is only about $2500 more than a similar Highlander, and only uses about 1L/100km more gas.  Plus, the dog likes the 4Runner more.  He told them.

They're going to do the APA deal on Friday.  It's a fantastic price - I was really surprised that it was an even better percentage discount than the Pathfinder.  Most Toyota dealers wouldn't even discuss 4Runner discounts.  God knows they're in short supply, as there isn't a V6 Limited between Hamilton and Mississauga.  The APA-approved dealer will have to do a trade.

If you were buying a used Lexus SUV, would you get a 300 or a 330?

The 330 is a (slight) improvement over the 300 in almost every way.  The answer seems too obvious.

Is this a trick question?

Depends on how much you want to spend...the older 300's are cheaper.  The newer 330's have less selection and would have depreciated less.  Also depends on what features you want.  The newer ones have more options.

Toyota would do better in the style department if they brought the Scion to Canada...  they haven't appealed enough to the Tuner market thus far to compete with the Civic in that demographic...  anyone, irregarldess of age, will buy a Civic - Corolla and Camry are usually older buyers.

Scion, or, bring back Celica.  :-(
