SAABs have the worst residual in the industry. My friend's parents '02 9-5 Wagon had depreciated to $7,500 with about 120K on it ('things' started to go on it, which were expensive, and the Saturn-Saab dealer in St. Catherines dropped the Saab line and generally the dealer never knew how to service the thing) when they traded for a Passat Wagon last year.

Few want to buy them when new, while the deals can be awesome when used. Picking up a traditional luxury-oriented '02 9-5 sedan or wagon - a $50G car - for $14-20Gs with 60K on it is a decent buy!

Yeah like you said, Saabs are great as long as your Saturn dealership knows what to do with them...

Siraqua, maybe you can answer this. Before GM forced Saturn dealerships to also sell Saabs, were there Saab dealerships around? I don't remember seeing stand-alone Saab dealerships at all. When did Saturn dealerships start selling Saabs?

No clue. I can't remember the time when SAAB was on their own. I'd imagine when GM bought them, they consolodated. That was what, late '80's, early '90's? And Saturn came about around '91 I guess?

Saturn-Saab-Isuzu dealers didn't need to have Saab. Some Saturn dealer's didn't have Saab, but it was encouraged in urban markets for sure.

I can't remember Saab every being totally on it's own with dealerships. When I bought the only Saab I ever owned, it was at a combo GM(PontiacGMC)-Saab dealer.

Sometimes they were in a dealership that sold a number of imports together (like Jag, Fiat, Saab or some such combo).

I don't think Saab ever sold many cars outside major urban areas.

The original SAAB dealer in Newfoundland was a joint British Leyland-Saab dealer.  He then became a SAAB-Jag dealer until GM got SAAB and Ford got Jag.

Bullit - a 1983 900Turbo with manny tranny of course. I only had it for a few months in Denver, CO and then the company I was with unexpectedly transferred me back to Vancouver and I had to sell it there as the duty to bring it back was prohibitive. The turbo was nice on the high mountain passes west of Denver.

Ah the Saab's.  My uncle back in the day had a 99EMS.  I remember the upright windshield and how it sounded like it was made from a chunk of steel.

Don't get him started.  I'm not in the mood for a real SAAB story on such a fine, sunny day!

Wow, a post I can actually offer an opinion on..

We had a new Saab, and had some problems.  Especially computer type problems.
e.g.
heat-turned off when turning off the car.  When the car is turned back on, the heat comes on full blast.
radio-turned on when the car turned off.  When the car is started the radio is turned off.
problems with the clutch
the window wiper only had two settings, Fast, and VERY fast
if you touch the face of the stereo, it's really hot even if the stereo wasn't being used
after turning off the car, there's this weird whirring sound for about five minutes
some other mechanical problems which I can't remember.

it's a quirky car.  but I thought the ride was really nice.  I met someone that has had over 50 Saabs in his life, and that's the only type of car he'll drive.  And since then I've met other Saab lovers, as they'll sometimes start talking about the car after seeing you come out of it.  So there's people that will only drive Saabs and they like the quirkiness of it.
I think it's a nice car but after the problems/experience with the dealership, I would not get a Saab/Saturn in the future.

"after turning off the car, there's this weird whirring sound for about five minutes"

That was just the thermostatically controlled cooling fan doing its thing. I've experienced that on several cars, and it's totally normal.

"...you had frun...."

Sorry to tease, Bullit, but I recall having fun, but very little "frun". Is that a combo of fun with another word that starts with "f"??
