Where do I find digital car repairing books?
« on: July 11, 2005, 10:40:11 pm »
Hi guys,

I would like to know where I can find on the net digital books (pdf) where it show's you how to repair your car. Like the Hains book you can buy at Canadian Tire stores. You know the kind of source on the net where you don't have to pay...

Thanks

If it's free you want, you're looking at it.  Just post every single question, and within, oh, about 158 years, you'll have everythign you need.

Hmmmmmm I think this is more like

Zen and the art of automobile maintenance.... or if we count Saf.....Life the Universe and everything.

Presumably there are websites and forums for your car with users who will be happy to answer your questions...  that being said, the $20 you shell out for a Haynes book is well worth it.

As a suggestion aproach your local dealer and enquire on the actual service manuel for your car as they are the very best. Some are very expensive but many others are a fair price. They can pay for themselves sometimes by just having them and not being taken advantage of as well. If you can do some of your own work then they are worth there weight in Gold.

There use to be lot of freebies on the net, but ever since companies are actively cracking down on them, it is turned into a "private business" and some sort of up front covering. The days of anybody can upload to a BBS site for download are long gone. The ISP have to protect themselves from those users as well. Very tough for anybody want to privide "free stuff".

Students go to jail for sharing MP3 files? Yeah, the authorities are watching. Too bad it is from those whose pocket books got hurt.

You can also try out Helm.com . I bought the service manuals for my g-f's Sunfire and it set me back $150.00. One major repair has paid for it already.

Helm and Inc. are the publishers to the Big 3 in North America. They produce the best Service Tech Manuels on every car built in this Continent. Yes they are expensive but they are the very best. With one of these books you can stretch a ownership experence from 2 or 3 years to 15 or 20. There books are great, I have had one of my vehicles for 18 years for this reason. It the best book in town.

Not that many people use the Helm Books as they are so expensive and sometimes difficult to get as well. When you fill out the order form for them make sure you have everything correct as they are extremely fussy and need everything just right or they won't serve you. They keep the money and say nothing. You have to chase after them then. Double or triple check the paperwork before you send it in. I have ordered books from them in the past and have learned their business habits. Very few people buy from them direct as they are so expensive, thats why I didn't mention them before.
